While the Green Bay Packers’ chances to make the NFL Playoffs are still alive, the team is looking ahead to the offseason by locking down one of the team’s best players. Offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins’ contract was up this year, making him a free agent in the offseason. However, the Packers have given Jenkins a contract extension that locks him down until 2027.

Packers Give Elgton Jenkins Contract Extension

The Elgton Jenkins contract extension from the Green Bay Packers is worth $68 million over four years, but it could be worth up to $74 million. The number seems to have a bit of significance for ol’ number 74 for the Packers. This extension makes him the second-highest-paid offensive guard in the NFL.

Of course, we are basing this on the total value and not cap hit for next year, as we do not know the details yet. We do know the Elgton Jenkins contract extension includes a $24 million signing bonus, which means he has a $6 million cap hit based on his signing bonus alone.

Elgton Jenkins’ Importance to the Packers

Over the years, Elgton Jenkins has been known to be a bit of a Swiss Army Knife upfront for the Green Bay Packers. Drafted as an interior lineman, Jenkins has made plenty of starts at tackle as well, including 339 snaps at right tackle this season.

While Jenkins clearly struggled at tackle this year, it is nice to have the safety blanket of someone like Jenkins who now has experience everywhere upfront. Giving Elgton Jenkins a contract extension ensures the offensive line only has to figure out the right tackle position.

Having a solid group up front in place also gives Aaron Rodgers more reason to return.

    Packers Free Agents 2023

The Green Bay Packers free agents list for 2023 is a bit alarming, given the cap space available. Following the Elgton Jenkins contract extension, here are the Packers’ free agents.
