Orlando Magic Needs Heading Into the Offseason

Orlando Magic Free Agents

  • Otto Porter Jr., SF
  • James Ennis III, SF
  • Moritz Wagner, C
  • Sindarius Thornwell, SG
  • Ignas Brazdeikis, SF
  • Chasson Randle, PG
  • Frank Mason III, PG

The Orlando Magic front office have a lot of decision making to do this summer. Let’s start at the top with Otto Porter Jr. I would think the Magic wouldn’t mind him signing elsewhere this summer. He doesn’t really fit with their young core. The same can be said for James Ennis III, although the Magic could bring him back for cheap.

Moritz Wagner is young and fits with the core. However, he will likely garner more money on the open market, forcing the Magic to let him go. As for the rest, they will all probably walk. Frank Mason III or Chasson Randle could be options to bring back on two-way deals. With two top-eight picks this year, that’s already almost $12 million devoted to rookies.

Orlando Magic Draft Targets

Jonathan Kuminga

Jonathan Kuminga was once mentioned in the same breath as guys like Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green and Evan Mobley. He skipped college and played in the G-League with Green. Kuminga showcased his explosive play-making and lock down defense. However, Green clearly out-shined him, so he has started to slip in some mocks. However, Kuminga is still an elite talent. His shot isn’t great, but shows promise. On top of that, he’s a Jimmy Butler-like type of defender. He can guard positions 1-4 in the NBA and would be a steal with the fifth pick.

Moses Moody

Moses Moody is one of the youngest players in the 2021 NBA Draft, which makes him all that more appealing. Moody showcased his great shooting and tough defense this past year at Arkansas. He has a seven-foot wingspan and can defend all wings. His shooting is mostly spot up at the moment, but it will develop with time. He also has a high motor and can be a great jolt on offense. He would be a great pick with eighth overall pick.

Charles Bassey

Charles Bassey is a guy the Magic would love to pick up with their second round selection. Bassey did play at Western Kentucky, so he didn’t see much elite competition. However, every time he was on the court he was clearly the best player. Standing at 6-11, he’s already a great rim protector and has excellent touch on the offensive end. The Magic have a crowded frontcourt full of promise, so adding Bassey would only help him and the other bigs on the Magic.
