Orioles vs Yankees MLB Betting Overview

Orioles Outlook

The Orioles didn’t exactly come into the 2021 MLB betting season with lofty expectations. With that said, it came as a shock for many baseball fans and analysts alike when the O’s managed to sweep the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in their season-opening series. Reality caught up with Baltimore fairly quickly after that. The first two games of their second consecutive road series against a division opponent have been decisive wins for the Yankees. The Orioles have mustered just 2 runs and 11 hits over the first two games combined.

While he probably wouldn’t be much more than a No. 3 starter on a higher quality staff, John Means will draw his second start of the season with the Orioles having cycled through their starting rotation. Means was terrific in the season opener against Boston, allowing a single hit across seven shutout innings. He’ll have his work cut out trying to contain a much more potent Yankees lineup tonight. The Orioles have had to shuffle the outfield a bit with Austin Hays landing on the 10-day IL. Ryan Mountcastle stroked a pair of hits in Tuesday’s loss starting in leftfield. A two-run homer by Rio Ruiz has accounted for all of Baltimore’s run production in the series thus far.

Yankees Outlook

Unlike the Orioles, the Yankees expect to be contending for a World Series championship this season. After dropping two of three to the Toronto Blue Jays in their season-opening series, the past two nights have been a welcome bounceback for New York. The Yankees have outscored the Orioles 14-2 in the first two games of the series. This has continued a prolonged run of dominance that New York has had over the Orioles in recent seasons. Since April of the 2019 MLB betting season, the Yankees have triumphed in 25 of the 28 head-to-head meetings against Baltimore. That’s an incredible run of dominance period, and it’s all the more impressive considering that these teams are divisional opponents.

Jameson Taillon will be on the mound to make his first start as a Yankee tonight. While the right-hander has quality stuff, injuries took their toll on his big league career while a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. With a bit of uncertainty on the mound, the Yankees will perhaps need a bit more run production than has been required in the first two games of the series. After smacking a three-run homer as part of a 3-hit, 4-RBI night on Tuesday, Aaron Judge will lead the Bronx Bombers in their quest to chase John Means from tonight’s game early.

  • The Orioles have won four of their last five Game 3’s in a series.
  • The Yankees are just 1-5 SU when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game.
  • Over the total is a perfect 4-0 in the last four Orioles’ games following a game in which they score 2 runs or less.
  • The Yankees have won six straight head-to-head meetings against the Orioles.
  • The Yankees have won 46 of the last 60 head-to-head meetings against the Orioles.

Orioles vs Yankees Stats

  • New York is averaging 4.40 RPG this season (Tied for No. 13 in MLB)
  • New York is surrendering 2.20 RPG (No. 1 in MLB)

Orioles vs Yankees Prediction

Betting against the Yankees when they are facing the Orioles is about as contrarian as contrarian gets. While I haven’t entirely ruled out an Orioles moneyline ticket from my Wednesday MLB betting picks, taking Baltimore on the run line makes a whole lot of sense here. New York easily has the more potent and powerful lineup. They are firmly capable of blowing this and any game wide open. That said, John Means was terrific in his first start of the season. If any Orioles pitcher is capable of limiting the Yankees bats, it’s him.

On the other side, we don’t exactly know what to expect from Taillon as he makes his Yankees debut. It’s hard for me to imagine Baltimore’s bats can be any quieter than they’ve been the last two days when making my Orioles vs Yankees prediction. This run line is juiced too far out of control for me not to take a swing with the road dogs.

Pick: Orioles +1.5 (-105 at Bovada Sportsbook)
