Last week, we said that no one is safe in college football, other than Alabama and Georgia. Well, it turns out truly no one is safe. Last weekend was one of the best college football betting weekends of recent memory. This weekend’s slate of games is nowhere near as exciting as last weekend’s. However, in college football, anything can happen.

Down in Texas, at DKR-Memorial Stadium, the Texas Longhorns will look to bounce back after their tough loss to Oklahoma. The Longhorns will be hosting the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who started 5-0, winning all of their games by only two possessions or less. Let’s take a bigger look at the matchup and make our Oklahoma State vs Texas college football betting prediction!

What to Watch For Oklahoma State Football

This isn’t your usual Mike Gundy-coached team. This year, the Cowboys seem to be winning games with their defense, and especially their run defense. The Pokes only allow 91 rushing yards per game and only give up 305 total yards per game. Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez has been all over the field so far this year, totaling 54 tackles already. Defensive ends Collin Oliver and Brock Martin each have 2.5 sacks. Overall, the Cowboys have 16 sacks on the year, which means they’re averaging over three sacks per game. In the secondary, Oklahoma State is a bit young, but senior safety Kolby Harvell-Peel is a leader and has two picks so far this season. They have a tall task ahead of them, trying to stop Longhorn running back Bijan Robinson. However, if they can even slow him down, the Cowboys have a great chance to pull out a road victory.

On offense, Spencer Sanders is back under center. However, this year he doesn’t have Chuba Hubbard with him in the backfield. Jaylen Warren is now the man getting most of the carries for Mike Gundy’s squad. He already has over 500 yards rushing, while tacking on six touchdowns. The wide receiver group is a deep one and is led by Tay Martin. Martin is a solid pass catcher with over 300 yards this year and two touchdowns. If the Pokes can find a way to score points through their passing game, and limit Bijan Robinson’s impact, then they should pull out a win on Saturday afternoon.

What to Watch For Texas Football

It has to be hard as a Texas player to even get up for a game against Oklahoma State after last weekend’s collapse. At one point, the Longhorns led the Sooners 28-7, and people were thinking that Texas was indeed back. However, they collapsed at the end. However, they showed a lot of promise last weekend, and Robinson is unbelievable. He’s the first running back since Reggie Bush who can just do it all. Quarterback Casey Thompson wasn’t terrible last weekend, but he will need to be better if they want to beat Oklahoma State.

On defense, there are a lot of question marks. They gave up 55 points in a game that did not go into overtime. Clearly, some things need to be patched up. With that being said, I think the defense will come out firing. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is the leader of the group and has over 50 tackles. As a unit, the defense has 13 sacks on the year. That’s simply not enough for a team of Texas’ caliber.

Oklahoma State vs Texas Prediction | College Football Betting

This should be an excellent matchup. You have two teams riding very different waves early in the season. The Cowboys have depended on their defense this year, and it’s paid off. As for Texas, their defensive woes aren’t fixable quickly; that will take time.

With that being said, I love Oklahoma State +5 on the road. I don’t think Oklahoma State will beat the Longhorns, but they will cover the spread.
