It’s a clash of the Canadians in Vancouver tonight, as the puck drops on Oilers vs Canucks while both teams look to try and return to a state of normalcy. COVID issues and protocols have ransacked both the Oilers and Canucks schedules this season. While Vancouver has not had a game postponed in about two weeks, the Oilers have played just three games since January 5th, with a total of 10 games postponed since mid-December. Let’s take a look at the betting odds, trends and picks for the game and give our Oilers vs Canucks prediction.

Oilers vs Canucks NHL Betting Preview and Stream

NHL Regular Season
Edmonton Oilers (19-16-2, 8-8-2 Away) vs. Vancouver Canucks (18-19-4, 8-8-2 Home)
Date: Tuesday, January 25, 2021
Time: 10:00 p.m. EST
Venue: Rogers Arena – Vancouver, BC
Coverage: ESPN+

The Oilers are a team simply no one has been able to figure out, betting-wise and beyond. They have two of the best players in the world in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl (winners of three of the last five Hart Memorial Trophies) yet currently occupy the sixth spot in the Pacific Division and are on the outside looking into the upcoming NHL Playoffs.

How is it that a team as talented as the Oilers have not won back-to-back games since the 16th & 18th of December? Goaltending, coaching, and scheduling issues all certainly play a role, but at the end of the day this team is simply underachieving at a criminal level.

The Oilers have no better opportunity to take a step in the right direction than tonight. Sure, they may be on the road, but the Canucks have not been great at home. They have also lost five of their last seven games, and are starting Spencer Martin in net. Martin has had a strange career path, playing just four NHL games in his career, three of which were all the way back in 2017. He did play well in his season debut against the Florida Panthers, making 33 of 34 saves in route to an OT loss, but there is absolutely zero indication that he will be able to repeat that performance.

Oilers vs Canucks Prediction

We are plugging our nose and cannonballing into the deep end that is the Oilers tonight.

Edmonton desperately needs this win, and at this point they are the most well-rested team in the NHL. Expect Martin to be tested all night long by a relentless Oilers offense who, despite their struggles, score at a top 10 rate.

Connor McDavid has been held out of the score column in five straight games, dating back to December 31st, one of the longest dry spells of his brilliant young career. Expect him to be all over the score sheet tonight.

All signs point to offense success for the floundering Oilers tonight. Instead of relying on the anemic Vancouver offense to try and cash the game total over, consider taking the Oilers team total over.
