If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 5 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.
If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick of the week.”
The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup. It may be worth it to look at the NFL betting odds for these games and place some bets as well.

Seattle Seahawks vs. New York Giants
While the loss last week to the Detroit Lions was not the most encouraging thing for the Seahawks, I am not taking that into consideration for them this week. The Lions were obviously the better team last week (and better overall) and Jared Goff going perfect is somewhat of an anomaly. The encouraging thing for the Seahawks is what we saw when Kenneth Walker was healthy. The dude is an absolute stud who makes magic happen. The only problem throughout his career has been the injuries. Now that Walker seems to be rolling, that is only going to help an already good passing attack. Geno Smith has been great this week and, as I said in this article, there might not be a better surrounding cast of receiving weapons than Seattle.
Let’s look at what the Giants have on offense compared to the Lions. The Lions have a much better rushing attack than the Giants. The Lions average 151.3 rushing yards per game to the Giants’ 85.3 (6th vs 30th). Like I said before, the Lions were just the better team. Daniel Jones is not going to be perfect throwing the ball and with Malik Nabers dealing with injuries, what really scares you on this Giants’ offense? Add in the fact that the Giants are traveling across the country and I love the Seahawks in this spot.

Washington Commanders vs. Cleveland Browns
If you truly believe in the Washington Commanders offense, I do not hate using them as your Lock of the Week for NFL Survivor Pool picks. I think that there are a lot of people out there who still don’t believe in them, which I am assuming is because of their defense. Let’s instead look at how good their offense has been this season.
Jayden Daniels is a stud. Brian Robinson is running like a man possessed. Austin Ekeler should be back this week and Kliff Kingsbury has been absolutely balling as an offensive coordinator. This week, they take on a Browns team that has a very overrated defense and has not been making too much noise on offense. Sure, Nick Chubb could be back, but at what capacity? Jerome Ford is fine, but nothing more, and with David Njoku hurt and Amari Cooper looking like his best football is behind him, what really scares you on this Browns offense? Sure, the Commanders have been horrible against the pass this season, but with the offense playing at a historic level, there is no doubt in my mind that Washington outscores Cleveland in this one.

High Risk, High Reward Pick of the Week | Week 5 NFL Survivor Pool Picks
Denver Broncos vs. Las Vegas Raiders
This is not the sexiest game in NFL history by any means, but I think there is some money to be made off of it. I know that the weather conditions were less than ideal, but I loved what I saw from the Broncos last week against the Jets. They flat-out shut down Aaron Rodgers and Breece Hall. Looking at a matchup against the Raiders, how hard can it be to shut down Gardner Minshew and Zamir White? If you ask anyone, the Jets duo is obviously better.
While Bo Nix is still looking to get into his groove as a rookie, this Raiders defense doesn’t scare me. Maxx Crosby has to be doubled or chipped on every play and. if that happens, I can see somewhat of a productive game from Nix and this offense. Even with Crosby, the Raiders have mustered just eight sacks this season. Add to that the Raiders have given up 137.5 rushing yards per game this season. All of this screams an opportunity for Nix to show why he was a first-round pick. The Raiders will be without Davante Adams in this game and maybe for the rest of his career. After liking a social media post about trading Adams, I think the final straw has hit for Antonio Pierce. Throwing your entire team under the bus and then pissing off the best player on your team is probably not a key to success for the Raiders coach.
