The backup quarterback trend continues with a classic Joe Flacco vs. Trevor Siemian duel. Flacco has been dealing through the air lately but the Jets defense thrives against the pass –– who’s going to bend first? It’s going to be a fun one regardless because well, it’s football so let’s dive into how you should tackle this week’s DraftKings NFL DFS Showdown fantasy football slate. I’ll highlight my favorite Captain’s plays and FLEX plays below.

Favorite Captain NFL DFS Pick
Joe Flacco ($15,900 Captain)
It is the year 2023 and Joe Flacco is viable in DFS… playing for the Browns? Strange times, indeed. Nonetheless, the Browns cannot run the ball anymore and have averaged just 55.0 rushing yards per game across the last three games. In that same span, Flacco has attempted at least 42 passes in each game and hasn’t produced less than 22.0 DKFP. It’s clear that the Browns are all-in on letting Flacco sling it as much as possible and hey, it’s working because they’re winning and scoring points. Amari Cooper ($11,200) has been the main beneficiary since Flacco took over as QB1 but should be in for a much more muted stat line considering Sauce Gardner will likely blanket him all game long.
Let me be clear by saying that the Jets’ defense has given up the fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers (312.3) and the second-fewest to opposing quarterbacks (187.7). The Browns’ offensive line is banged up and there’s a chance that the Jets’ pass rush poses issues more often than not but the Browns’ run game is out of the window at this point. The passing game has worked with Flacco –– if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

David Njoku ($7,800 FLEX)
Considering Cleveland likely won’t be able to attack New York’s weak running game due to its own issues, another area of exploitation is the tight end position, particularly David Njoku. Since Week 14, Njoku has posted at least 27 DKFP twice and has found the end zone four times. It’s clear that Flacco likes Njoku in the red zone and he has an opportunity to continue the strong play against an area that the Jets tend to struggle in –– allowing over 162 fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season.
I’m trying to consider as many factors as possible and Njoku feels like one of the safest options on the slate. His matchup is at least positive and the Jets will be focused on limiting Cooper and other pass-catchers so that Njoku can find those easy throwing lanes for Flacco. He’s simply been too involved since Flacco took over and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him find the end zone for a fourth straight week.
