Eastern Conference Round 2 NBA Playoffs Game 6 (BKN leads 3-2)
Brooklyn Nets (48-22, 20-16 Away) vs. Milwaukee Bucks (46-26, 26-10 Home)

    Time:
    8:30 pm EST
    Venue:
    Fiserv Forum – Milwaukee, WI

    ESPN

The main story the “talking heads” will try to push is that Kevin Durant is the best player in the world. While it may be true, even Durant’s 49 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists do not tell the full story of Game 5. The Milwaukee Bucks held a 17-point lead halfway through the third quarter of the game. Durant could have scored 60 points and one could still argue the Bucks should have won Game 5. The issue for the Bucks goes far beyond shooting percentages, team depth, or any other dumb take certain talking heads have claimed.

The real issue for the Bucks is the refusal for innovation and new ideas throughout the series. For example, the Milwaukee has not used Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez’s skills wisely. Outside of Blake Griffin, the Nets do not have a big-bodied rim protector. Yet, Antetokounpo and Lopez seem content settling for three-point shots. But what will happen if the Bucks face the 76ers in the next round when the paint will be really packed?

The point? The Bucks need to do what they do best — attack the paint.

Next, Giannis needs to step up as the leader of this team. The Bucks clearly made a great choice in acquiring PJ Tucker to guard opponents such as Durant. But it seems that Mike Budenholzer wants to save Antetokounmpo’s energy on the defensive end. Giannis is a great defender in his own right; he has already won a Defensive Player of the Year.

So, why is Giannis not stepping up in the huddle to take on the challenge of guarding Durant down the stretch?

Giannis has all of the physical traits to guard Durant effectively, yet his skill are being underutilized by the team. The blame for this problem is, of course, on Budenholzer, but Giannis also needs to step up as an MVP, DPOY and leader of the team.
