With the 17th overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings draft Dallas Turner — edge rusher out of Alabama. Turner was widely viewed as one of if not the top defensive player in the draft and should have a long NFL career. Let’s take a look at what Dallas Turner brings to the Vikings.
Dallas Turner
Position: Edge
Height: 6’3’’
Weight: 247 lbs
Age: 21
College: Alabama Crimson Tide
While he didn’t participate in all of the drills, here are the Dallas Turner Combine results that we have.
40-Yard Dash | 4.46 Sec |
10-Yard Split | 1.54 Sec |
Vertical Jump | 40.5 Inches |
Broad Jump | 10’7″ |
3-Cone Drill | DNP |

Turner’s athleticism is highlighted by his fluidity, agility, and ability to change direction seamlessly. This allows him to pursue ball carriers effectively in open space and handle a variety of assignments. Combined with his length, Turner’s athleticism gives him the versatility to pull off a variety of pass-rush moves that make him difficult to predict and counter.
Turner has an elite first step that allows him to explode off the line when rushing the passer. His quickness off the line often forces opposing linemen to play off their back foot which gives Turner an edge.
Turner lacks elite-level strength that it requires to consistently take on blocks. He can be disrupted by a strong tackle or even tight end in both the pass and run game which you’d like to see improve in order to reach his ceiling.
Despite possessing athleticism and burst, Turner’s pass-rush repertoire lacks refinement, and he relies too heavily on his quickness off the line. If he can become more polished with his pass-rush moves, Turner could become one of the better edge rushers in the league.
As a rookie, it can be expected that Dallas Turner will come up with big plays at pivotal moments, but not be a consistent elite pass rusher yet. He has the athleticism and quickness to occasionally beat NFL offensive lineman at times and has enough pass-rush moves to complement his athletic tools. However, he is still lacking the strength and needs to get more polished in order to get to the quarterback consistently.
