With the NBA Finals officially over, next on the schedule will be the 2021 NBA Draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves once again found themselves in the draft lottery, after a disappointing year. However, because of the D’Angelo Russell and Andrew Wiggins trade, their seventh pick was sent to the Golden State Warriors. On top of that, the T’Wolves have a lot of discussions to be had this offseason regarding NBA Free Agency.
The following is a complete look at the Minnesota Timberwolves needs, as we approach the 2021 NBA Draft and Free Agency.
Minnesota Timberwolves Needs Heading Into the Offseason
Minnesota Timberwolves Free Agents
- Ed Davis, C
- Jarred Vanderbilt, PF
- Jordan McLaughlin, PG
The Timberwolves are in a bit of a pickle this offseason. If you look at the team as its currently constructed, there are a lot of valuable pieces. Last year’s first overall selection Anthony Edwards forms a solid, young corps with Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell. So, with this crop of free agents, I would expect none of them to be back.
Jordan McLaughlin will likely try his luck elsewhere, assuming the Wolves hold on to Ricky Rubio. Vanderbilt has proven to be a good player, but with Jaden McDaniels proving his worth this past year, they won’t spend on Vanderbilt. As for Ed Davis, he’ll likely find a new home as well. With no draft picks this year, and not a lot of flexible cap space, it could be a tough summer in Minnesota

Minnesota Timberwolves Draft Targets
With no picks to speak of right now, they would only be able to buy a pick in the second round. That seems unlikely with how young the Wolves already are.
