The 2024 NFL Draft is less than a month away and the hype level on this year’s class is sky high. The draft class is considered one of the best offensive tackle drafts in recent memory. However, the most intriguing position of this draft class comes from the quarterback prospects. Michael Penix Jr. is one of the best pure throwers of the football in this draft. The 2024 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 25, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Only Round 1 will take place on Thursday. Rounds 2-3 will take place on April 26th, with the remaining four rounds wrapping up on Sunday, April 27th. There will be 257 players selected across the seven rounds, with many more getting phone calls immediately afterward.
Michael Penix Jr. did not participate in any of the drills at the combine. We did get to see him throw and he looked extremely accurate and confident when throwing.
Michael Penix Jr. has proven to be one of the best deep-ball throwers in this draft class. He has incredible touch and accuracy on the deep ball which shows that he has the ability to push the ball down the field. Penix has a quick release and does a great job at getting the ball out quickly when he feels pressure.
He can make tight-window throws while putting great velocity on the ball. His overall accuracy makes him such an intriguing player to general managers across the league. He plays with great confidence which is a trait that we have seen all of the top NFL QBs possess.
Unfortunately, Michael Penix Jr. has a history of season-ending injuries — four of them to be exact. This is what ultimately will drive some organizations away from drafting Penix. He has stayed healthy in each of the past two seasons, which gives hope that his durability might not be as big of a concern. Penix also has shown very little mobility when maneuvering outside of the pocket. He has excelled as a true pocket passer in college but will have to learn to extend plays with his legs in order to have success in the NFL.
