This is the second time in the last three seasons that these two teams have matched up. Previously, Marquette outlasted Illinois, 67-66, at Fiserv Forum in 2021. This year, Vegas seems to think this game will be a close one as well.
Marquette has steamrolled Northern Illinois and Rider while Illinois had trouble with Oakland after an opening win over Eastern Illinois. With just over seven minutes left, Illinois was tied at 48 with Oakland before locking it down late at home.
Illinois is a solid team, but I just don’t see this how Vegas does. Marquette is nearly the same exact team as last year and has hit the ground running. Illinois on the other hand has had plenty of turnover and just one player currently averaging over 10 points per game. It is definitely hard for opponents to win on the road in Champaign, but Marquette’s hot offense and harassing defense should be more than able to get it done.
