Mariners: Luis Castillo (8-6, 2.99 ERA)
Blue Jays: Alex Manoah (16-7, 2.24 ERA)

    Seattle Mariners Preview

After missing out on the MLB Playoffs in heartbreaking fashion last season, the Seattle Mariners finally broke through in 2022. A deal for starting pitcher Luis Castillo helped Seattle shore up an already solid rotation. Although Robbie Ray and Marco Gonzales have been average at best this season, Logan Gilbert has had a fantastic season, posting a 13-6 record with a 3.20 ERA. Paul Sewald leads the team in saves with 20, but the Mariners have multiple options to close out games such as Diego Castillo and Andres Munoz.

Seattle may only sport a .231 team batting average, but when they do get hits, it’s often hit hard. Seattle had eight players swat at least 10 home runs this season. Although strikeouts can often become a problem for sluggers Eugenio Suarez and Julio Rodriguez, they still find a way to get the job done more often than not.

    Toronto Blue Jays Preview

Much like the Mariners, the Blue Jays were also disappointed to miss the MLB Playoffs last season. This season looked to be more of the same for Toronto. Desperation set in for Toronto, and they subsequently fired manager Charlie Montoyo and replaced him with John Schneider. Under Schneider, the Blue Jays went 46-28 to close the year and lock up the first wild card spot.

Toronto may have more offensive firepower than anyone as they had five players hit 24 or more home runs this season. Toronto had a team batting average of .264 and an on-base percentage of .329. In the past, the pitching staff has been the reason for their demise, however, it looks to be more consistent this season. Led by Alex Manoah, Kevin Gausman and Jose Berrios, the Blue Jays arguably have three “aces” when they’re on their game.
