You always have to expect the unexpected in the MLB Playoffs. With that being said, not many would’ve expected the Seattle Mariners to jump on the Toronto Blue Jays as they did in Mariners vs Blue Jays Game 1, where they scored three runs in the very first inning. With their backs against the wall and their ace on the mound, the Blue Jays will not be going down without a fight.

This MLB betting preview for the AL Wild Card MLB Playoffs Mariners vs Blue Jays Game 2 includes game info, starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for today’s postseason matchup.

Blue Jays: Kevin Gausman (12-10, 3.35 ERA)

    Seattle Mariners Preview

The Seattle Mariners may not have won a playoff game in over 20 years but it certainly didn’t look like it in Game 1. The Mariners looked completely relaxed on their way to a 4-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. They jumped on Blue Jays pitcher Alex Manoah early thanks to a double from Eugenio Suarez and a two-run homer from Cal Raleigh. While they only scored one more run over the final eight innings, that was all they needed.

Much like the Cleveland Guardians, the Mariners are in about as good of a spot as they can be. Thanks to a gem from Luis Castillo, the Mariners only used one reliever in Game 1. They still have the full rotation along with one of their main closers Paul Sewald at their disposal in Game 2. A lot will be asked from Robbie Ray against his former team, but if anyone can do it, it’s the 2021 AL Cy Young winner.

    Toronto Blue Jays Preview

The problem for Toronto wasn’t so much generating hits so much as putting them together. The Blue Jays have one of the best offenses in the entire MLB and yet only managed one extra base hit which came in the ninth inning. The status of outfielder George Springer will certainly be one to monitor as he was hit on the wrist by a pitch from Luis Castillo in the eighth inning. If that injury affects him on Saturday, the rest of the team will need to step up if they want to keep their season alive.

Toronto did have to use multiple relievers in Game 1 as Alex Manoah was only able to go 5 2/3 innings. No reliever even threw 20 pitches however so they should have all of them at their disposal again if needed. A lot of pressure will be put on the shoulders of starter Kevin Gausman. For as good as Gausman has been in the regular season, in six postseason games, he is 0-1 with an ERA of 4.20. Of those six games, he only started one. Not an ideal amount of experience for the Blue Jays with their season on the line.
