One of the best stories from this year’s MLB Playoffs has been the Seattle Mariners. Seattle Mariners Preview
In a league that often sees the same teams in the playoffs every year, seeing the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS is a refreshing change of pace. Make no mistake though, this Mariners team could very easily do some more damage in these playoffs. Luis Castillo pitched an absolute gem in Game 1, the bullpen has looked good, and they have their team leader in wins on the hill for Game 1 of the MLB ALDS.
The Toronto Blue Jays are not known for their elite pitching, but scoring 14 runs in just two games is impressive no matter what pitcher you face. Seattle has had some fantastic complimentary hitting and showed the ability to link hits together when it mattered most. This team may be the underdog, but they truly believe they can keep going and they certainly have looked good so far. Can this magic run continue for another round?
Houston Astros Preview
It seems odd that the Houston Astros have mostly flown underneath the radar this year despite winning 106 games. Whether it’s due to their prolonged success as true contenders or due to fans hating them for their past cheating scandal, one thing is for sure: this team is for real.
In Game 1 the Astros will have likely AL Cy Young award winner and ageless wonder Justin Verlander. It’s crazy to think that he’s playing his best baseball at the age of 39. Combine him with a high-octane offense with five batters who have hit 22 or more homers and you have a team that is in “World Series or bust” mode. While Toronto was a solid team, the Houston Astros are a completely different animal.
