Kicking off the Sunday NHL slate is a Lightning vs Islanders matchup featuring two teams on the second leg of a back-to-back. The Lightning held off the Red Wings in Detroit yesterday, while the Islanders got smoked by the Bruins in Boston. The Lightning are four games into a road trip that has been defined by offensive woes, while the Islanders have the benefit of being home for the third time in four games.

Let’s take a look at the betting odds, trends and picks for the game and give our Lightning vs Islanders prediction.

Lightning vs Islanders NHL Betting Preview and Stream

NHL Regular Season
Tampa Bay Lightning (40-18-6, 21-12-2 Away) vs. New York Islanders (28-26-9, 17-12-4 Home)
Date: Sunday, March 27, 2022
Time: 2:00 p.m. EST
Venue: UBS Arena – Elmont, NY
Coverage: TNT

Goaltending: TB: Andrei Vasilevskiy (2.39/.920 – Confirmed) | NYI: Ilya Sorokin (2.29/.927 – Expected)

This Lightning vs Islanders game presents many interesting considerations when it comes to NHL betting. Tampa Bay is struggling offensively but is still providing ways to make bettors money. Depending on how you’d been playing their games, you could potentially be on an 8-0 hot streak or a seven-of-eight losing streak.

Mix the best goaltender in the NHL with an offense averaging just over two goals per game in the last month and, whallah, you’ve got the recipe for an abundance of unders. With Tampa not covering a puck line or hitting their team total over in seven of their last eight, there is no reason to believe that will change in New York tonight with tired legs and going against Sorokin, who has shut out opponents six times this season.

The Islander puck line is hefty right now, at -190, but it could be something to heavily consider for a parlay you may be putting together. Though their offense has been rolling lately, with 11 goals in their last three games, don’t be surprised if the momentum comes to a screeching halt when faced with the force that is Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Lightning vs Islanders Prediction

From road legs to elite goalies, this is a game that screams under. We are really not sure as to how the total on this game is not an even five, but we will be happy to take the cushion. If it makes you more comfortable, it wouldn’t be crazy to tease it up to six if you can get an affordable line of -120 or less.

Both teams are likely going to lean on their goaltenders while they try to navigate their way to victory in a grind-it-out type contest. You may even want to consider looking at some save props.

Our NHL betting Lightning vs Islanders prediction tonight will be Under 5.5 at BetUS
