We are just three days away from the conclusion of the WNBA regular season. Despite this, only six of the league’s eight postseason tickets have been punched thus far. Entering Friday’s four-game slate, a quartet of teams all sit tied in the standings with only two spots available. It just so happens that two of those four squads will go head-to-head on Friday night as the New York Liberty take on the Atlanta Dream. Much like the playoff race itself, the WNBA betting odds for tonight’s Liberty vs Dream prediction are nip and tuck.

Liberty vs Dream WNBA Betting Game Preview

New York Liberty Preview

It wasn’t all that long ago that the Liberty faced a multi-game deficit in the standings with regard to earning a WNBA Playoffs berth. Thanks to winning four of six games over the past two weeks, New York has erased said deficit and now controls its own destiny with regard to making the postseason. Most recently, the Liberty lost back-to-back road games at Phoenix and Dallas before exacting some revenge on the Wings on Wednesday night.

Perhaps even more important than Wednesday’s 18-point win were the players New York had on the floor during the game. After missing the first meeting against Dallas on Monday, Natasha Howard was able to return from an ankle injury. Also returning to the Liberty lineup this week was Betnijah Laney, who had been sidelined since late May with a knee injury. She certainly made an impact in Wednesday’s win by scoring 11 points. Laney joined Sabrina Ionescu, Marine Johannes and Sami Whitcomb in double figures scoring as the Liberty earned a massive WNBA betting victory.

Atlanta Dream Preview

Unlike New York, the Dream have not been as consistent with stringing together winning results here late in the season. While Atlanta did manage to score back-to-back home wins last week, those outcomes represent the team’s only two victories in the last eight games. The Dream suffered a damaging loss to fellow playoff contender Minnesota last weekend before falling at Las Vegas on Tuesday night.

Bettors certainly have to factor in Atlanta’s injury report when deciding on tonight’s Liberty vs Dream prediction. Just 11 games after making her season debut, Tiffany Hayes landed on the shelf again, this time with an ankle injury. In addition, both Asia Durr and Nia Coffey were also lost for the remainder of the WNBA betting season within the last couple of weeks. Fortunately for the Dream, midseason acquisition Maya Caldwell has provided a huge spark offensively. While Atlanta also has rookie No. 1 overall pick, Rhyne Howard, in the mix, the team continued to struggle to score consistently.

Liberty vs Dream Stats

  • New York is surrendering 82.3 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 6 in the WNBA).
  • Atlanta is averaging 78.6 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 11 in the WNBA).
  • Atlanta is surrendering 81.4 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 4 in the WNBA).

Liberty vs Dream Prediction

From the standpoints of momentum and player health, it seems safe to say that the Liberty have a pretty decisive edge over the Dream entering Friday’s matchup. However, with the two teams right in the thick of the WNBA Playoffs race, it’s tough to say that recent results will carry over. Interestingly enough, the two sides will meet again on Sunday in New York City in the regular season finale. The league couldn’t have scheduled that out any better with regard to the playoff push.

Despite the perceived advantage being with New York, the Liberty have not been great at covering WNBA betting point spreads on the road recently. It’s also interesting to note that the Liberty were a small underdog when they visited Atlanta earlier this season. While Friday’s spread may be small, it’s difficult to be thrilled about having to lay points and/or moneyline juice with the Liberty away from home.

As far as our Liberty vs Dream prediction for tonight’s high-stakes showdown, playing over the total of 159.5 appears to be the most appealing option. Needless to say, this is a very low over/under line for a WNBA betting matchup. However, it makes perfect sense given that New York and Atlanta rank ninth and 11th respectively in both scoring offense and overall offensive rating.

With that being said, the current total is also 3.5 points lower than where oddsmakers first opened the line. That’s a steep move and one significant enough that bettors can now look to buy back in the opposite direction.

Liberty vs Dream Prediction: Over 159.5 (-115 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
