Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins put up more great numbers in 2020. The 32-year-old signal caller passed for 4,265 yards, 35 touchdowns, only 13 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 105.0.
Pro Football Focus gave Cousins an overall rating of 83.5 on the year, good enough for 11th-best in the NFL.
But, where Cousins has shined most is when it really counts. When the Vikings are in scoring position, Cousins has been nothing but pure money.
And, when the game is on the line, Cousins comes through.
The Vikings got off to a slow start in 2020, running a 1-5 record over the first six weeks. However, once they left the rut, Cousins competed with the best of them. Only Aaron Rodgers threw more touchdowns in the final eight weeks of season, and only Deshaun Watson tossed the ball for more yards.
If the Vikings can work free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft to further develop the talent around Cousins, the future looks bright. Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen are elite wide receivers. Dalvin Cook is a top-tier running back. Once Viking head coach Mike Zimmer gets the defense back on track, Cousins and crew may very well turn it on when it counts most: the playoffs.
If not, the Vikings can always trade Cousins for Deshaun Watson.
However, taking those red zone and fourth quarter numbers into the January games should translate to wins. And with that, Minnesota may very well find itself as the last team standing when it’s all said and done.
