Josh Allen Fantasy Breakdown

After the Buffalo Bills acquired Stefon Diggs this offseason to secure a solid WR1, Josh Allen’s fantasy value increased immediately. In an offense that is looking for consistency at the quarterback position, this is the year that Allen either becomes a franchise QB or not.

Allen is the leader of the offense, but he is still in need of improvement in both accuracy and decision-making. He not only does his job throwing the ball, but on the ground as well as he has 17 rushing touchdowns in just two seasons as a quarterback. That’s the second-most ever by a QB, since Cam Newton ran for 22 touchdowns in his first two seasons.

Josh Allen Fantasy Outlook

The thing that Allen really lacks is his deep ball accuracy. By signing Diggs, the Bills offense is likely to be more efficient with Allen leading. He already offers tremendous upside with his running ability, and especially his red zone touchdowns, so his fantasy value will be the highest it’s been during his career

Overall, the Bills offense improved significantly in the offseason outside of the Diggs acquisition, and that was drafting rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis and rookie running back Zack Moss. HC Sean McDermott has said that this is the year that Allen will step up, and with the targets he has, he should be reeling in consistent fantasy value for the 2020 season. Over the last eight games of the 2019 season, Allen only threw two INTs opposed to seven in the first eight. During that eight game-stretch, he threw 12 TDs opposed to only eight. He started to figure it out a lot quicker through the second half of the season.

The downside to Allen’s fantasy value is that the Bills are certainly a run-first team, especially since they have second-year back Devin Singletary, who showed glimpses of excellence in 2019 and now rookie Zack Moss. This is Allen’s third season, and a playoff appearance last season was certainly promising but he needs to step up this year throwing the ball to secure an extension. Allen finished as the QB6 in fantasy last season, despite being ranked 23rd in passing yards.

Josh Allen Fantasy ADP

Many have seen the additions made around Allen as his ADP is currently 8.10, the QB11 overall in PPR formats. Allen is definitely one of the QBs I’ll be going for in 2020 because without a true WR1, he finished as the QB6 overall in 2019.

It’s likely that McDermott has Allen throw more often than normal and have him run a bit less to minimize the risk of injury. I’ll be taking Allen as my QB1 in any league I can simply because he has the weapons to put up great numbers on a team that wants to win. If the Bills stay hungry and go for the AFC East title, Allen will finish with career highs.
