Health and hydration, meet innovation. What was once an idea in 2006, far ahead of its time, is now the smartest way to hydrate. Introducing the LifeFuels bottle.

In an effort to both promote hydration while eliminating plastic waste, the LifeFuels smart water bottle seeks to tackle both of these issues, while also promoting convenience and giving a great flavor. With complete transparency, I was sent a LifeFuels bottle to try and I will be sharing my personal review of this product below.

LifeFuel’s Innovation to Hydration

As stated above, this bottle was actually an idea before the iPhone released. With the technology needing to catch up, LifeFuels was tabled until they officially created the 16.9 oz bottle in 2018.

What sets LifeFuels apart from other water bottle companies are a couple things — their dispensing flavor pods and app.

In the bottom compartment of the bottle, there is an area to lock in three flavored FuelPods. Aside from the aesthetically pleasing, uniquely-colored lights that flash for each flavor, having the pods locked into the bottle is convenient. Instead of carrying with you other products to flavor your water throughout the day, you can have three different flavors essentially built into your bottle.

There are two different ways to dispense these flavors. First, there is a button on the front. Second, you can use the LifeFuels app, which I will cover more later. So, clearly the bottle needs to be charged in order for you to get some flavor into your water. With up to four days of battery life with a full charge, there is plenty of life in this bottle. However, it may be useful to keep a charging cord at your work desk, for the forgetful folk.

LifeFuels App

The LifeFuels app is just as much of the product as the actual bottle is, which speaks to the technology of this company. The app is free to download and helps you sync your device with your bottle to access a few different features.

First, the app displays the amount of battery life left in your bottle. However, the most notable feature of this app is that it allows you to track your daily water consumption. You can set hydration goals, as well as notification reminders to help keep you on track and motivated.

The final feature of the app, which is something I did not anticipate, is the ability for you mix your flavor pods and save your creation. For example, I could mix peach with strawberry mango. Then, I saved my “recipe,” so this mix was only a right swipe away for next time.

FuelPods Flavors and Taste

There are currently a dozen flavors of FuelPods for you to choose from, and they all have their own nutritional properties. They even have a flavor with natural caffeine, which has been my substitute for an afternoon coffee or pop (yes, I’m from the Midwest) to get me through the remainder of the work day.

The current flavors are as follows:

  • Unsweetened Blackberry Lime (Antioxidants)
  • Unsweetened Cranberry Raspberry (Electrolytes)
  • Unsweetened Strawberry Mango (Multi-Vitamins)
  • Kiwi Strawberry Lemonade (Electrolytes Plus)
  • Orange Tangerine (Immunity)
  • Guava Strawberry (Electrolytes)
  • Blackberry Acai (Antioxidants)
  • White Grapefruit Citrus (Natural Energy)
  • Peach
  • Peach (Multi-Vitamins)
  • Lemon Lime (Electrolytes)
  • Ginger Citrus (Focus)

I know this could be the most important point in the entire review for some people, so let’s get into the taste. There are few reasons to get this innovative bottle to dispense flavored FuelPods if the flavor is bad. But honestly, the flavors have been so much better than I expected.

There are both sweetened and unsweetened flavors for you to choose from, as noted in the above list. I feel as though the unsweetened flavors especially taste like the real fruits! Of course, they also have the sweet flavors that many of you will gravitate to and enjoy, but I do suggest creating your own mix with both a sweetened and unsweetened flavor together.

LifeFuels Price and Subscription

Okay, that all was great, but what is this going to cost me? Trust me, I get it. No worries. I am a self-proclaimed cheapskate to a fault, as well as an economically-minded person, so I am as hyper sensitive to price as it can get.

When you purchase your LifeFuels bottle, it comes with the charging cord and three FuelPods of your choice, which can equate up to 90 servings of this 16.9 oz bottle. If you do the one-time purchase of this, it will run you $150. I won’t lie, this can be a lot to fork over for a water bottle.

However, if you sign up for the subscription through this link, you will get what I mentioned above for $100, or $50 off. Then, next month you get three more FuelPods for $29. In other words, it makes zero sense to do the one-time purchase. Do the subscription and get 90 extra servings for $21 less.

If we want to break down this price a little bit to make it seem more reasonable, like I actually did, we should start with the fact that you get 90 servings with your initial $100 purchase. If you’re buying flavored water in bulk, you may be getting it for $1 per bottle. That would be $90 for the same amount of flavored water that the LifeFuels bottle comes with, but you’re also promoting plastic waste and don’t have a bottle that tracks your water consumption, which is pretty cool.

Final Thoughts on LifeFuels

Let’s make this simple and sweet. For my only con, I wish I could take the top part off the bottle and leave the pod dispenser behind if I was drinking plain water. You can’t do this because there’s no bottom, since there needs to be an opening for the bottle to dispense flavors through.

With that small gripe, which is mostly on me since this bottle cannot function without it, I think this bottle is great. If Apple created a water bottle, I feel this would be it. The price is on point, the savings through our link helps a lot, the app is awesome and the flavors taste great!
