Yes, there has been hockey in Canada this season. Thanks to TV rights deals, the NHL betting public in the United States probably saw very little of it. Nonetheless, this 2-3 North Division series figures to be a good one. The Jets come in having lost five of their final 15 games and with several players listed as questionable for tonight’s Game 1. However, with reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck in net, it’s impossible to count Winnipeg out.

Speaking of goaltending, Mike Smith enjoyed a career year for the Oilers this season. He also went 4-0 against the same Jets team he’ll face in this First Round NHL Playoffs series. Those four wins were part of a full-season beatdown that Edmonton put on Winnipeg in the regular season. The Oilers won seven of the nine head-to-head matchups overall and each of the last three by a combined score of 12-2. The duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl could be poised to lead Edmonton on a long-awaited deep postseason run.
