Garrett Wilson Draft Profile
Strengths
If there is one word to describe Garrett Wilson, it is simply “athlete.” Using his athleticism, Wilson almost makes it look easy to jump and snatch balls out of the air against all defenders. This culminates in Wilson having an exceptional catch radius, oftentimes coming down with passes that are out of his catch radius. Wilson is also able to create a good amount of separation from his defender. He has shown that as he creates great separation at the goal-line on fade and crossing routes. With the ball in his hands, Wilson is a natural runner. He can make moves to get into space quickly and succeed. He worked well on bubble and slip screen at Ohio State. Wilson also has the ability to line up all over the offense.
Weaknesses
Wilson can struggle against physical press coverage, which we see daily in the NFL. The unknown surrounding Wilson is how he can play without a loaded receiver room. Ohio State’s receiver room included Chris Olave, who is projected to go in the 2022 NFL Draft’s first round. Improving on his route running will be key to his success in the NFL as he ran a majority of boundary routes in college.
