With the 52nd overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts draft Adonai Mitchell — wide receiver out of Texas. Mitchell was a bit of a late riser during the draft process, but flew up boards thanks to his size and speed. Let’s take a look at what Adonai Mitchell brings to the Colts.

Adonai Mitchell projects to be an elite downfield threat thanks to his speed and acceleration. His ability to change speed during routes and excel in go routes, posts, and digs shows his explosiveness and effectiveness as a deep threat, allowing him to stretch the field and create big-play opportunities for the offense.
With his ridiculous catch radius, Mitchell has the ability to reel in passes away from his body that not many receivers can. He is elite at securing off-target throws from various angles thanks to his body control and flexibility.
Throughout his college career, Mitchell’s intensity fluctuated from game to game. That certainly impacted his overall numbers as he didn’t have a huge effect on every game that he played. Additionally, he lacks aggression as a run blocker, suggesting a need for improvement in effort and consistency in both blocking and overall play demeanor.
In AD Mitchell’s first year, fans can expect to see flashes of potential greatness on multiple occasions. His elite speed and ability to make exceptional catches will produce an entertaining rookie highlight reel. As he further develops, he will need to work on consistency and efficiency. He should take pressure off of Michael Pittman Jr. in the Colts’ offense right away.
