Titans Free Agency Will be Difficult
This offseason will truly make or break the Titans next year, as they currently have twenty unrestricted free agents. The worst part for the organization is that many of these free agents are key players for the team. Choosing who to bring back might be an unprecedented challenge for the organization.
Players like Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith and Khalif Raymond were an integral part of the Titans offense this past season. Moreover, losing these players to free agency could affect the team more than just cosmetically. This is in part to the attention that these players draw from defenses. This allows the stars like AJ Brown and Derrick Henry to put up big numbers on the stat sheet.
Defensive Issues in Titans Free Agency
The main issues associated with free agency come on the defensive side of the ball. The list of impactful players that are currently free agents currently sits at three. All of which have a major impact on the team. Those players are Jadeveon Clowney, DaQuan Jones, and Jayon Brown.
After the poor season along with injury issues, Jadeveon Clowney might not even be in consideration to be re-signed. Still, Clowney is interested in returning to Tennessee. The biggest issue for Jadeveon Clowney might be his asking price. He will have to ask for a one-year deal worth five to six million to stay a Titan.
When it comes to the other two players, it is crucial to either sign them back to a new deal or find a worthy replacement. DaQuan Jones had the best year of his career, totaling 49 tackles and two sacks. He was also a bright spot on a lack-luster defensive front for the Titans. Jones will have to bring down his price point if he wants to stay in Nashville.
Lastly, Jayon Brown is a crucial part of the Titans defense. He recorded 76 total tackles, along with one sack and one interception. Brown did this in only 10 games prior to his season-ending injury. He is easily identifiable as top-tier talent in the NFL. His performance is comparable to those making $45 million and up.
Overall, the Titans must understand the importance that this offseason holds. If they make the right moves, it could yield success for them. It could finally be the push the Titans need for a lengthy postseason run and even a chance at the Super Bowl.
