Charlotte and New York have both already secured either a playoff or a play-in spot. With that said, both of these teams are going to be itching for a win in a game with major Eastern Conference playoff implications. The Knicks are sitting at the sixth seed currently and could move all the way up to the fourth with a win. The Hornets on the other hand, have to try and hold on to their spot in the eighth seed currently so they get two attempts to make it into the playoffs. This Hornets vs Knicks betting preview will find the best NBA betting odds, list some betting trends and give you a prediction for the game.

The Hornets were sitting “pretty” at 30-30 until they decided to drop seven of their next ten and find themselves in a dangerous position with two games left in the season. What seemed like a lock as a team that got two cracks at a playoff spot in the play-in tournament, is now more of a question mark. In spurts, this team can be very dangerous, however they will very rarely dominate over the course of a game against anybody.
The Hornets have some solid players and pieces on their team. The problem is none are good enough to take over by themselves at any time which causes each player to be reliant on those around them. That’s why players like Terry Rozier, Devonte’ Graham, and others are so crucial to the team’s success. If just one or two pieces has an off night, this Hornets team is thrown into disarray in a hurry and very rarely shows the consistency and star power to come from behind and win.
The laughingstock of the NBA for the last five to seven years, or so, is finally starting to turn things around. The Knicks were certainly the surprise team in the east and are doing it thanks to an MVP-caliber season from Julius Randle and new coach Tom Thibodeau. This team always carries a chip on their shoulder, plays hard, and plays some great defense, much like the Thibodeau-coached teams that came before them.
The Knicks are 6-4 over their last 10 games, have the same record as the Miami Heat, and are a half game behind the Atlanta Hawks. Although Atlanta plays the Rockets and is unlikely to lose their grip on the fourth seed, the Knicks can apply pressure with a win over the Hornets. As for the Heat, they still have to play Milwaukee as well as Detroit. With the Bucks finding their groove as of late, the Knicks have a real chance of moving into the sixth seed for good with a win over Charlotte.
The Knicks have plenty of weapons on their roster that can take over on any given night. The Hornets, on the other hand, do not. Not only do the Knicks have more ability to win games even on an off night, they have the best player on the floor in Julius Randle, and they have the toughest defense in the league, statistically. I don’t see the 22nd-best offense in the league boding well against an elite defensive unit. I see the Knicks winning handily, but also hitting the under.
