The New York Giants have been making changes to the offense in NFL Free Agency, with the release Kevin Zeitler and the additions of Kyle Rudolph and John Ross. While the choices have been met with criticism, they still have spending opportunities. The cut of Zeitler will save the Giants nearly $12 million in cap space.
Most of this money should go towards signing a top wide receiver. The Giants have been attempting to upgrade this corps since the trade of Odell Beckham Jr in 2018. The one clear free agent the Giants should sign is Kenny Golladay.
Giants Free Agency Target: WR Kenny Golladay
With only five games played last season, Kenny Golladay had a lackluster year. Finishing with only 20 receptions, 338 yards and two touchdowns, this season was not a great showing of what Golladay can do. If you base Golladay’s potential based on what we saw in his 2019 campaign, then there is huge upside in going after him. In 16 games, he was able to go for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns on 65 receptions. You could argue that he could be WR1 in this class, even alongside Chris Godwin and Allen Robinson.
Golladay would also bring a big body in the Giants WR group. Coming in at 6’4” and nearly 220 pounds, Golladay would easily be the biggest receiver in the room. Giving Daniel Jones a weapon that can go up and consistently come down with the ball would be something that he has not yet had in the NFL. Jones has found success in going deep with the ball, becoming one of the best in the league at it.
A trio of Jones, Saquon Barkley and Golladay could revitalize a Giants offense that has been weak for the past few seasons.
