    Kadarius Toney Draft Profile

    Strengths

Kadarius Toney is as pure an athlete as they come. He played two sports during his time at Florida, starring not only on the gridiron but on the track team as well. Prior to his tenure as a Gator, Toney played quarterback for the final two years of high school. The QB numbers are staggering for a guy about to be drafted into the NFL as a receiver. After some shifting between running back and receiver during his first season, Toney settled into his role as a dynamic playmaker in the slot. He has excellent size and demonstrated an ability to impact the game whether he had the ball in his hands or not. His speed makes him a downfield threat in any vertical attacking scheme.

    Weaknesses

Toney did have his first college season cut short by injury and also missed time in 2019. While it appears to be a thing of the past, it’s worth noting that there is injury history. Because he played quarterback in high schools, Toney’s route tree is somewhat limited. While he was very effective in the role Florida gave him, it remains to be seen whether that will apply across other schemes at the NFL level. In addition, his technique suffers from wasted motion and a lack of strength when up against press coverage.

What to Expect From Kadarius Toney in 2021

After signing Kenny Golladay this offseason, wide receiver became less of a need for the Giants. However, there is no doubt that this skill position group has an issue with health. The Giants also need to know what they have in Daniel Jones, so they drafted him one of the top wide receivers in the NFL Draft. Kadarius Toney is going to be a Day 1 contributor, however, this pass-catching group is solid. Meaning, Toney is not expected to be the top receiving option, which could work in his favor. If the Giants can draw up ways to get him in space, Toney will put together quite the highlight reel against the NFC East this season.
