When it comes to fantasy football streamers, the defense/special teams position is always one to monitor. In fact, many owners opt to intentionally stream the position all season long, playing positive matchups over drafting a highly-regarded unit. For those looking to do just that starting in Week 9, this article will have some solid options for you. Don’t forget there are four teams on a bye this week (WFT, SEA, DET, TB) compared to only two last week, making a streaming option that much more appealing but also less stressful than last week.

Read on for three D/ST fantasy football streamers that are worth consideration for Week 9.

Defenses must be owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues to be included in the Week 9 fantasy football D/ST streamers column. All ownerships for players will be provided and will reflect that of Wednesday morning, once waivers are processed.

Week 9 Fantasy Football D/ST Streamers

Miami Dolphins vs. HOU (15.3%)

As hard as it is to trust the Miami Dolphins in any form this season, this may be the one and only week you can have some confidence in their defense to post solid fantasy points. Houston is god-awful and, despite the shotty play, Miami has good corners which could very easily pick off whichever quarterback starts for Houston. The Dolphins used to be elite defensively but have failed to show any spark of that this season. This really could be the week they show that glimpse of the dominant fantasy defense they were last year, forcing turnovers and holding opponents to low point totals. Opposing defenses facing Houston score an average of 8.0 fantasy points per game thus far.

Atlanta Falcons at NO (26.0%)

The Atlanta Falcons are another team that is hard to trust to generate any fantasy points, but they face a Saints team without a true starting quarterback. It’s either Trevor Siemian or Taysom Hill, and I would take the risk of starting Atlanta for the upside of an interception or two. Obviously, the Saints are a better team in all aspects of the game and will most likely win the game, but with slim pickings available on the fantasy football waiver wire under 50 percent ownership, it’s not a horrible idea to take the chance of streaming the Falcons. Their ownership only raised about 7.5 percent once waivers were processed, so it seems some fantasy managers are taking this approach but also avoiding it.

Los Angeles Chargers at PHI (5.8%)

With the teams on bye and limited options under 50 percent, the Los Angeles Chargers could be very sneaky against an inconsistent Philadelphia offense. It’s clear they won’t be able to stop the run, so the Eagles could simply run the ball all game long, but they have struggled in the passing department more often than not. Plus, Philly doesn’t seem to like running the ball on a regular basis and the Chargers should have no issue scoring on their defense, so the game script could force Jalen Hurts to throw the ball, which will likely lead to mistakes. It’s risky streaming LAC here because they’ve been inconsistent, but it could pay off big time against a team who is really struggling to generate passing consistency the past few games.
