Week 6 is here! It seems like Week 5 is just wrapping up with the Tuesday night game taking place last night but don’t blink because it is time for another week. This week the Chargers, Raiders, Saints, and Seahawks are all on scheduled byes and we have another Monday night doubleheader to look forward to. Just a reminder that in this fantasy football start sit article, we will be looking at players on the fringes at QB, RB2 and WR2 in typical PPR fantasy leagues to provide assistance deciding who is a worthy of a start and who is taking a seat.

Week 6 Fantasy Football Start/Sit

Quarterbacks | Fantasy Football Start/Sit

Start: Cam Newton vs. Broncos

With the news that Cam has been removed from the COVID list, he needs to be inserted into your lineup with a matchup against the Denver Broncos. The Broncos D has given up 21.7 fppg to opposing QBs through their first four games and is fresh off giving up 23.6 fantasy points to Sam Darnold. This was largely due to Darnold rushing six times for 84 yards against them, and while most of it came on one 46-yard run, that still means that he ran another five times for 38 yards. Bill Belichick took notice and Cam will have multiple opportunities with designed runs to give him a high floor, making him a rock solid QB1 this week.

Start: Kirk Cousins vs. Falcons

Last week, Teddy Bridgewater was featured as a start against the Falcons and lived up to the billing, coming in as the QB12 for the week. This week, we will stick to the “start your QB against the Falcons,” with Kirk Cousins as a great spot start against the Falcons D, who give up 30.5 fantasy points per game (fppg) to opposing QBs. Cousins has put up over 21 fantasy points in both of his home starts this season (against the Packers and Titans). Likely without Dalvin Cook this week, the Vikings will have to air it out more than they typically do, and Cousins will have success against the Falcons secondary. Start him as a low end QB1 this week.

Sit: Matt Ryan at Vikings

You have to go back to September 27th to find the last time that Matt Ryan passed for a TD. The Falcons are in shambles right now, having just fired their head coach and GM, and they are possibly going to be without Julio Jones again this week. On the other side of the field, the Vikings D is coming off one of their better showings of the season. The Vikings are giving up 20.3 fppg to opposing QBs. but despite that. you are better off leaving Matt Ryan on your bench this week for a more trustworthy option.

Sit: Teddy Bridgewater vs. Bears

Coming off of his best two games of the season, finishing as QB4 and QB12 the past two weeks, you may be tempted to leave Bridgewater in for one more week, but don’t. The Bears D has been downright stingy versus opposing QBs, giving up 12.7 fppg on average. In addition, they have not allowed a QB to finish in the top-15 in any game this season. Even with four QBs on bye this week, you can very likely find a better start than Bridgewater. Leave him on the bench.

Running Backs | Fantasy Football Start/Sit

Start: Myles Gaskin vs. Jets

Last week, in what was one of the toughest matchups on the board, Myles Gaskin was on the sit side of this article. Then, Jordan Howard was a healthy scratch and Gaskin proceeded to get 21 touches, turning those into 20.1 fantasy points. Now, he gets a dream matchup against the Jets, who give up 24.9 fppg to RBs. With Howard likely out of the picture and another 18+ touch game in store Gaskin, this makes a great play as an RB2 with RB1 upside.

Start: Phillip Lindsay at Patriots

With the news that Melvin Gordon III was cited with a DUI and speeding violation, he faces as much as a three-game suspension from the league and any consequences that the Broncos dole out. Enter Phillip Lindsay, who is now fully recovered from his toe injury that has kept him out since Week 1. He practiced in full last week and would have played if the game were held. Instead, it is being held this week and, if Gordon sits, Lindsay will be an RB2 play, even against the Patriots D giving up only 15.3 fppg to opposing RBs.

Check in prior to the kickoff to ensure Gordon is out, then lock Lindsay in.

Sit: All Ravens RBs at Eagles

I went on record a couple of weeks ago saying that Mark Ingram was not going to return RB2 value this season, and you should look to trade him while he still had value. Now, I am recommending sitting all Ravens backs this week at the Eagles, 17.8 fppg allowed to opposing RBs, and perhaps looking elsewhere for the next month as well, with a bye next week prior to games against the Steelers (14.5 fppg), Colts (13.5 fppg) and Patriots (15.3 fppg). That is a brutal stretch and, as long as Ingram, J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards continue to cannibalize each other’s touches, look elsewhere for your RB2.

Sit: All Rams RBs at 49ers

The Rams are another backfield that you are better off looking elsewhere this week. The 49ers D has been tough on RBs all year, with the exception of Gaskin last week, and even with his 20.1 points they are now giving up only 13.0 per game on average. Darrell Henderson had a big week last game, putting up 21.8 points on the Redsk… er the Football Team, aka Generics, but now Sean McVay is talking about getting Cam Akers involved more this week. Between Henderson, Akers and Malcolm Brown, this situation is too murky to start anyone this week with a tough matchup on deck.

Wide Receivers| Fantasy Football Start/Sit

Start: A.J. Brown vs. Titans

A.J. Brown looked back to full health after coming back from a knee injury. He caught a TD on the first target he saw on Tuesday night, and he finished with seven catches for 82 yards, good for WR11 on the week. Now, he gets a home matchup against the Texans secondary, which is giving up 24.2 fppg to opposing WRs, and this is a secondary he had his way with twice last year, putting up games of 8/114/1 and 4/124/1. Start him up as a WR2 with WR1 upside this week.

Start: Jamison Crowder at Dolphins

Trivia time. Name the top two WRs in fppg this season. Obviously, one of them is Jamison Crowder (22.5 fppg) or else why would I mention it here? Of course, that is right and the other is Davante Adams (24.1 fppg). Through three games played this season, Crowder has not had less than seven catches for 104 yards, and he has a TD in two of the three as well. On a team with so few weapons, and even less after they released Le’Veon Bell this week, Crowder is positioned to continue to see 10+ targets this game against the Dolphins D, which is giving up 24.9 fppg to opposing WR.

This makes him a WR2 lock for Week 6.

Sit: Darius Slayton vs. Generics

After finishing as the WR12 last week, with eight catches for 129 yards, it might be tough to put Darius Slayton back on the bench this week, but the Reds.. er… Generics are actually only giving up 18.3 fppg to WR on the year. Slayton has had a couple of boom games this year, including last week and his WR5 performance in Week 1 versus the Steelers, where he had six catches for 102 yards and two TDs, but he has been ghostly quiet in three others, finishing as WR80, WR68 and WR57. Based on the difficulty of the matchup and the struggles of his QB Daniel Jones, who has not thrown a TD since Week 1, he is best left on benches this week.

Sit: Diontae Johnson vs. Browns

After starting off the season looking like he might be the Steelers WR1, with his heavy target share through two weeks, Diontae Johnson has now left the last two games with separate injuries. With the practice reports coming out that Johnson missed practice Wednesday (no surprise there), his status for the coming week is murky. Basing this on the assumption that he will play this week, he is a sit even in a great matchup against the Browns D, giving up 31.1 fppg to opposing WRs, between his multiple ailments and Chase Claypool’s dominant performance last week.
