As we enter Week 5 of the NFL season, the quarterback play is starting to come around, but there are still so many inconsistencies around the league. While the play is improving, it still isn’t top-notch football by any means. Whether that be strong defensive line play, a soft zone, or injuries, one thing is certain – this has affected many in the fantasy football community, leading to many relying on fantasy football Week 5 QB streamers. At this point in the season, I am not sure if you feel comfortable unless you have Lamar Jackson.

Each week, this column will highlight some of the top fantasy football quarterback streamers that are widely available and ready to be scooped up at a moment’s notice. Read on for our top QB streamers and best positional matchups for Week 5.

Fantasy Football Week 5 QB Streamers

Geno Smith Fantasy Outlook (36.3%)

Even though Kenneth Walker registered a three-touchdown day and the Seahawks fell to the Detroit Lions last week, Geno Smith continued to show his prowess in fantasy football this season. Smith registered 395 passing yards and one passing touchdown, adding another 38 yards on the ground. Smith now sits as the eighth-ranked quarterback in fantasy football this season. With a surrounding cast of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Kenneth Walker, Zach Charbonnet and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, not many quarterbacks in the NFL have a better group around them.

This week, Smith and the Seahawks take on the New York Giants, who have given up 851 yards through the air and six touchdowns. On top of that, the Giants have given up a 106.5 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks this season, which ranks 27th in the NFL. There is nothing in this Giants secondary that is going to scare you if you are starting Smith. The Giants will try to get after Smith and send me pressure, which screams one-on-one matchups. With Metcalf’s size and Lockett and Smith-Njigba’s route running, I think all three of these players can beat man coverage all day.

Deshaun Watson Fantasy Outlook (26.7%)

After kind of a stinker performance from Deshaun Watson against the Raiders last week, the Cleveland Browns and Watson take on the Washington Commanders. While Watson’s numbers look weak, he did have an 82-yard touchdown called back on a very questionable penalty. Even though the Commanders have been playing good ball on the offensive side lately, the same cannot be said about the defense. In fact, Washington has given up 933 yards to opposing quarterbacks through four games this season.

Three out of the last four quarterbacks that have gone up against the Commanders have scored 20 points in fantasy. Watson has also attempted 32 passes in each of Cleveland’s four games this season. I am not expecting Watson to be QB1 this week, but as bye weeks start, if you are a Jalen Hurts owner, the opportunities for Watson to produce a 250-yard, three-touchdown game are more than available.

Caleb Williams Fantasy Outlook (49.4%)

It really feels like Caleb Williams needs that statement game yet in his rookie season. While the expectations were next to impossible to live up to in his rookie season, seeing Jayden Daniels playing so well can’t feel good for the USC alum. This week, the Bears take on the Carolina Panthers.

So far this season, the Panthers have given up nine touchdowns to just three interceptions, setting Williams up for a big day. The Panthers have given up a passer rating of 107.8 to opposing quarterbacks this season and with just five sacks. It seems like Williams should have the opportunity to sit back and find his guys. As a fantasy player, it was nice to see Williams connect with DJ Moore last week, and we have seen him build some sort of relationship with Rome Odunze and Cole Kmet this season.

With Keenan Allen healthy, this seems like as good of an opportunity as any to get him going. We know that Allen will get open against the Panthers’ defense. I am not so sure that I am in on Williams as a passer, but I am in on Moore, Allen, Odunze and Kmet, so this is a game to me where if Williams has the time (which I think he will) this receiving corps is just too good to be stopped by the Panthers.
