Welcome back to the best time of the year: fantasy football! When it comes to fantasy football streamers, the defense/special teams position is always one to monitor consistently on the waiver wire. In deep formats, it can be hard to find a defense that returns solid value, which is why many fantasy owners opt to intentionally stream the position all season long, playing positive matchups over drafting a highly-regarded unit.

For those looking to do just that, read on for three Week 1 fantasy football defense streamers that are worth consideration.

Defenses must be owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues to be included in the Week 1 fantasy football defense streamers column. All ownerships for defenses will be provided and will reflect that of Wednesday morning, once waivers are processed.

Week 1 Fantasy Football Defense Streamers

Washington Commanders vs JAX (42.5%)

Washington’s 2021 defense didn’t look as dominant as 2020’s, but it is still full of young talent that could perform well. They face the Jaguars who were abysmal last year and struggled to score consistent points. Trevor Lawrence will improve, but I’d bet on Washington making it difficult on him, applying a ton of pressure. They’re rostered in just under 43 percent of leagues.

Philadelphia Eagles at DET (23.8%)

The Philadelphia Eagles improved on both sides of the ball, and I like them as a sneaky fantasy football defense this season. They’ll apply a ton of pressure and potential high-sack totals against a struggling Detroit Lions offense. The pass rush will give the Lions’ offensive line some issues and Philly’s run game has been top-notch for the last few years now. They are only rostered in less than 25 percent of leagues and have a very easy schedule.

Denver Broncos at SEA (22.0%)

It is surprising to see the Denver Bronco’s ownership this low because they have always lingered around the top half of fantasy football defenses. However, this matchup is too good to pass up. This is Russell Wilson’s revenge game and the Seattle offense will struggle mightily this season with Geno Smith and their poor offensive line. Denver will easily accumulate sacks and QB pressures while also flustering Smith enough to turn the ball over once or twice.

This should be an easy fantasy football waiver wire add, if you’re on the fence about your current defense.
