Fantasy Football Start or Sit: Week 17 RBs

Start: Elijah Mitchell vs. Texans

After missing three straight games, Elijah Mitchell is not a sure thing to play this week. But if he does, he gets a mouthwatering matchup to lead you to the promised land. On the season, the Texans are giving up 27 fantasy points per game (fppg) to RBs. Over the last four weeks, that number has increased to 32.5 (second-worst in the league). In the three games prior to his injury Mitchell, had 27, 33 and 25 touches, so he was becoming a legitimate workhorse for the 49ers. If in fact Trey Lance receives the start as well, look for Mitchell to get plenty of work to help the rookie get comfortable.

Start: Rashaad Penny vs. Lions

Following his breakout game against the Texans, Rashaad Penny had a tough matchup against the Rams, where he fell on his tail and was only able to generate 11 carries for 39 yards and two catches for five. Last week, he took full advantage of his matchup against the Bears, putting up 135 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Which side of the Penny are we going to see this week against the Lions? On the season, they are allowing 26.4 fppg to opposing RBs, and Penny will return RB2 value this week. He will be your lucky Penny this championship week.

Sit: D’Onta Foreman vs. Dolphins

D’Onta Foreman put up solid numbers in a couple of nice matchups against the Jaguars and Steelers. Last week against the 49ers, however, he was only able to muster up 17 yards on nine carries. The only saving grace to an otherwise abysmal fantasy game was a touchdown. In this three-man committee with a tough matchup again this week against the Dolphins, who have only allowed 19.7 fppg on the season and 14.1 fppg against opposing RBs over the last four weeks, he has a capped ceiling due to lack of volume and cellar for a floor if he can’t get in the end zone. You can do better with your championship on the line.

Sit: Saquon Barkley at Bears

It has been a season to forget for the second overall pick of the 2018 draft, as this generational RB has yet to exceed 64 yards rushing in a game this season. He has only had three RB1 performances and another two RB2 performances to date, and the dynamic duo at QB of Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm has led the Giants to 16 total points over the last three weeks. This game has plenty on the line in terms of draft positioning for next year but no significance for this season, as both of these teams are just playing out the string. Even in a middle-of-the-road matchup against the Bears defense, the Giants offer no playable options this week. If you are playing Barkley, you are hoping he can break a long run to redeem himself for the lost season, but you likely have moved on and have better options if you are playing this week.
