Josh Allen fantasy owners, breathe a sigh of relief. He is back in your lineup this week, but the quarterbacks on bye this time around are Tyler Shough, JJ McCarthy, Brock Purdy and CJ Stroud. One of these players is not like the other, at least from a fantasy football perspective. Still, there are multiple fantasy starters out, so it could create some tough fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em decisions for you.
Now, let’s establish some boundaries here. I am not here to say Drake Maye is a “start” this week. We’ll leave that groundbreaking analysis to the AI slop creators. Instead, I will be discussing those who are worthy of a conversation and who may be on the fringe of being a QB1 this week.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 8 QBs
Start: Jacoby Brissett Fantasy Outlook at Cowboys
Only two games have a projected total of over 48 points in NFL Week 8. And with the highest projected total of the week (54.5), the Arizona Cardinals travel to take on the Dallas Cowboys. This looks to be a good matchup for Jacoby Brissett.
The Dallas Cowboys allow the fifth-most fantasy points to QBs. They have held the opposing quarterback under 20 fantasy points just twice this season, and both times were to backups (Jalon Daniels, Tanner McKee).
Brissett is coming off tough matchups against the Rams and Broncos, so it was natural to see his production take a hit. Even still, he finished as QB15 against Denver last week. With an easier matchup, there is no doubt he has top-12 upside.
Not only has Dallas struggled to defend the pass and get their defense off the field on third downs, but the Cowboys also feature a good offense. As a result, Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona passing offense will have to stay aggressive and throw the ball downfield, making him a “start” in the Week 8 Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em.
Start: Kyler Murray Fantasy Outlook at Lions
Last week, it looked like Kyler Murray would be in a great spot against the Indianapolis Colts. Unfortunately, he only finished as QB20, but it’s not because he was terrible. Rather, the Colts struggled so much that Minnesota played hyper-conservative offensive football. Murray attempted just 24 passes in the game. However, he will have to pass more on Sunday.
This week, the matchup against the Detroit Lions is a juicy one. Defensively, Detroit has improved, but they are still a positive matchup. They allow the most fantasy points to QBs, and they also have given up a 66.7% completion rate. Murray and the Vikings will be able to move the ball against the Lions, and the best part is that Detroit features one of the best offenses in football.
The Vikings won’t be able to run the ball and milk the clock in this game and emerge victorious. Kyler Murray must utilize players like Justin Jefferson and TJ Hockenson, which means a good fantasy day should follow.
Sit: Caleb Williams Fantasy Outlook at Seahawks
While Caleb Williams has really improved as a quarterback, he still has those moments where he completely collapses under the pressure and weight of the game. In Seattle for Monday Night Football, expect him to experience a debilitating atmosphere that will be tough to overcome.
The Seahawks allow the second-fewest fantasy points per game to QBs this season. They have allowed just two quarterbacks to score double-digit point totals and only one above 20. This was the fluke game where Seattle traveled across the country to get beat by Marcus Mariota in the early time slot. That was what we call a “wake-up call.”
Caleb Williams has played the Seahawks just once in his career. He passed for 122 yards and an interception as a rookie. While he should be a bit better than that, he still falls on the wrong side of our Week 8 Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em.

Sit: Patrick Mahomes Fantasy Outlook at Broncos
Patrick Mahomes may be getting his WR1 back this week, with Rashee Rice returning to practice. However, that may not be enough for Mahomes to put up a good fantasy performance.
Kansas City is without Josh Simmons at tackle, so the pass protection is not at 100%. That’s bad news, since Denver’s pass rush is heating up. The Broncos have averaged 4.3 sacks over the past three games, which is the most of any team. They have allowed just two passing touchdowns over their past three games as well.
Mahomes has back-to-back games where he hasn’t thrown a touchdown, and now he has to play in Denver. Even if that touchdown drought ends, it will take more than that to return top-12 value, which is something he has not done since Week 2.
