Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 7 QBs

Start: Dak Prescott Fantasy Outlook vs. Lions

If you have been streaming QBs or relying on a backup for the past five weeks while Dak Prescott has been out with a thumb injury, then wait no longer. This week, Dak is back! He returns to a great matchup against the Detroit Lions, who are allowing an average of 22.9 fantasy points per game (fppg) to opposing QBs. That is the second-worst in the league. While sometimes you may like to take a wait-and-see approach with a player returning from injury, this is the exception where the matchup is just too good to leave Prescott on your bench. As long as he goes on Sunday, he belongs in fantasy lineups as well.

Start: Jimmy Garoppolo Fantasy Outlook vs. Chiefs

Jimmy Garoppolo is coming off of two straight QB9 performances, with 18.0 and 18.9 fantasy points each of the last two weeks. This week, he draws a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, who are allowing opposing QBs to put up 22.1 fppg against them. With the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles on a bye, that takes three QB1s out of action. Jimmy G makes a nice bye week fill-in in a game with a nice matchup and where the Chiefs will make the San Francisco 49ers have to air it out a little more than usual.

Sit: Russell Wilson Fantasy Outlook vs. Jets

The QB22 on the season on a per-game basis, Russell Wilson is putting up only 15.1 fppg. Wilson has finished as a QB1 exactly once this season, and he now draws a matchup with the New York Jets who just got done handling the Green Bay Packers, 27-10, in Lambeau Field no less. The Jets are only giving up 15.7 fppg to opposing QBs and, since Wilson is averaging just below, that would seem to be a pretty solid expectation for him this week as well. Keep Wilson on your bench even with three QB1s out for the week.

Sit: Justin Fields Fantasy Outlook vs. Patriots

After a woeful start to the season, including weekly rankings of QB23, QB27, QB31 and QB26 over the first four games, Justin Fields has back-to-back weeks with 17.0 and 19.4 fantasy points. Since Week 2, when he rushed for only 20 yards, Fields has averaged 58.5 rushing yards per game, which is nearly the equivalent of a rushing touchdown per week for fantasy purposes. If he continues to run at the same rate and is even adequate at passing the ball, he will be knocking on the QB1 door most weeks. But this week, in a matchup vs. the New England Patriots, he is best left on benches as Bill Belichick eats young one-dimensional QBs for breakfast.
