While some fantasy tight ends that were drafted have fallen flat, no position has given us start-worthy replacements quite like TE. We are at the point where you have to remove all name value and simply look at their production. When you do, making fantasy football start ‘sm, sit ’em decisions gets much easier!
Look, I am not here to tell you that Trey McBride or Brock Bowers are worthy of starts. Hell, we’ll leave that type of analysis to the Fantasy Football Counselor or some other hack. Instead, we will look at the players who potentially may or may not be a TE1, depending on their weekly matchup.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 6 TEs
Start: Tyler Higbee Fantasy Outlook vs Cardinals
Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams love using their tight ends so much that they have helped jumpstart the league-wide multi-TE sets trend. Their best receiver of the bunch, Terrance Ferguson, remains out, so the reliable Tyler Higbee is the one reaping the rewards. If you are unsure about your starting TE, go get him now, since he is a very clear “start” in our Week 6 Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em.
Over the past three weeks, Higbee ranks as TE5 while averaging a ridiculous 2.01 fantasy points per target. He is averaging 7.7 targets during this span while also averaging the fifth-most air yards per game among tight ends (65).
The matchup against the Arizona Cardinals is great. The Cardinals allow the fifth-most fantasy points to TEs (19.3), giving up over 20 fantasy points to the position in three straight weeks. This is the perfect opportunity for Tyler Higbee to post another top-10 week.
Start: Pat Freiermuth Fantasy Outlook at Buccaneers
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without both Roman Wilson and Michael Pittman Jr., meaning Aaron Rodgers will lean on Pat Freiermuth a bit more than he already has. Prior to the season, Rodgers spoke about Freiermuth’s versatility, saying they needed to get him more involved. This has led to him ranking as TE8, totaling 5.2 targets per game.
The Buccaneers’ defense has been good this season, but they have struggled to guard tight ends at times. They rank 22nd against fantasy TEs, allowing 30 receptions for 301 yards through five games. Freiermuth has a legitimate shot to lead Pittsburgh in targets on Sunday, so he absolutely can be started in your fantasy league. He is a player you can keep on your team moving forward as well.
Sit: Hunter Henry Fantasy Outlook vs Jets
Hunter Henry is coming off his best performance of the season, totaling 44 yards and a touchdown. That means he has totaled over 40 yards in three of his past four games. Even if you are thinking he will just be your bye week fill-in during Week 6, you should avoid Henry this week.
The matchup against the New York Jets is not a good one. The Jets have allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to TEs. They are also one of the teams that have not allowed a touchdown to the position, and they have given up just 183 yards through five weeks. This includes matchups against Sam LaPorta, Tucker Kraft, Colston Loveland and Harold Fannin Jr.
There are many better options at TE this week, including players you can pick up off the waiver wire.
Sit: Kyle Pitts Fantasy Outlook vs Bears
Last week, Kyle Pitts finally found the end zone, giving him his first top-20 performance of the season. You should be chasing that and expecting it to happen again.
Michael Penix Jr. will play this week, but after the injury to his ribs, he is far from 100%. His overall performance will likely take a hit. On top of that, the Falcons may use a blocking tight end to help protect him, which could take Kyle Pitts off the field for more snaps than normal. Pitts has played just north of 50% of the Falcons’ offensive snaps this season.
The matchup against the Chicago Bears is also not great. Chicago has allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to tight ends. They have given up just 18 receptions through five weeks, and no tight end has scored.
