Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 4 QBs

Start: Jared Goff Fantasy Outlook vs. Seahawks

Through the first three weeks of the season, Jared Goff is the QB11, averaging 19.1 fantasy points per game (fppg). The Detroit Lions offense has come out of the gates hot with 95 points, second only to the Baltimore Ravens, and are third in the league in yards behind only the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills.

This week, he gets a home matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, who are giving up 17.8 (fppg) to opposing QBs. He should finish as a QB1 with the way this offense is clicking. The one catch might be the health of RB D’Andre Swift and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, who are both dealing with injuries. If St. Brown doesn’t suit up, Goff will fall a few spots in the rankings. Otherwise, start Jared Goff with confidence.

Start: Marcus Mariota Fantasy Outlook vs. Browns

Sitting two spots behind Jared Goff at QB13 is Marcus Mariota, who is putting up 17.3 (fppg). He has done it in a variety of ways too, between rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, passing for two touchdowns in Week 2, and passing and rushing for a touchdown last week. This week, he gets a favorable matchup against the Cleveland Browns, who are giving up 20.3 (fppg) to opposing QBs.

With his ability to make plays with his legs, Mariota offers a relatively safe weekly floor. In this matchup, he has a good shot at finishing the week as a QB1. Mariota is a clear “start” in our fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em article.

Sit: Matthew Stafford Fantasy Outlook vs. 49ers

It has been a rollercoaster start to the season for Matthew Stafford, who put up only 10.8 fantasy points in Week 1 as a recommended sit before putting up 20.9 in Week 2. Last week, he only put up 10.2 fantasy points and this week finds himself as a recommended sit against the 49ers defense, which is only giving up 10.3 (fppg) to opposing QBs. In his only game against the 49ers last season, he passed for 243 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions (16.3 fantasy points). Look for a similar finish this time around. If you have a better option, leave Matthew Stafford on your bench.

Sit: Carson Wentz Fantasy Outlook vs. Cowboys

The QB5 to this point of the season, Carson Wentz, started things off with 29.7 and 28.8 fantasy point outings against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions before falling flat against his old team the Philadelphia Eagles last week (8.6 fantasy points). This week, he gets an even tougher matchup, as the Dallas Cowboys are only giving up 14.2 (fppg) to opposing QBs. Wentz looks like he is better off left on the fantasy bench. He is shaping up as part of a nice fantasy football Quarterback By Committee (QBBC), as he should fair well in easier matchups and doesn’t look like you can trust him in the more difficult ones.
