For as many points that Week 1 brought us, there were several really big disappointments at the wide receiver position. There were injuries, like AJ Brown and Ladd McConkey, as well as massive dud performances from stars like Ja’Marr Chase. It is important not to get too tilted from one week, but also don’t get complacent. Ask yourself those tough fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions. And if you don’t have answers, that’s where we come in.
Look, I am not here to say that Justin Jefferson or Amon-Ra St. Brown belong in your lineup. I hope you already know that. Instead, I will go over players you may actually have a question about. These are players you may debate on starting in your WR2/3 slot, or possibly your Flex position, depending on the weekly matchup. Below, I have two players I like and two more that I am nervous about.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 2 WRs
Start: Quentin Johnston Fantasy Outlook vs Raiders
Boy, that was not the start to the season that the Los Angeles Chargers thought they’d have. They are in a must-win game, considering the gauntlet they have starting next week. After exiting the game last week with a rib injury, it’s possible Ladd McConkey either misses the Chargers’ game against the Raiders, or he could be limited at the very least. That opens the door for Quentin Johnston to be featured in our Week 2 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em!
Last week, Johnston led the Chargers WRs in snaps (78%), and he was tied for the second-most targets on the team (6). We heard how excited Mike McDaniel was about Johnston a few months ago, and a matchup with the Raiders is a great opportunity to break out the plays he has drawn up for him.
Aside from the large role and the excited offensive coordinator, another thing Quentin Johnston has going for him this week is his history against the Raiders. In PPR scoring, Johnston has totaled double-digit fantasy points in four of his past five matchups against the Raiders. This is a big deal for a wide receiver who has struggled for most of his career. Look for him to be a solid start against the Raiders once again on Sunday.
Start: Deebo Samuel Fantasy Outlook vs Dolphins
Unsurprisingly, Deebo Samuel rejoined the San Francisco 49ers’ lineup and picked up right where he left off. Samuel led all 49ers receivers in looks, with eight. This includes seven targets and a carry. He turned those touches into 60 total yards and a touchdown, and his role will be large against a much weaker opponent.
The 49ers’ injury woes continue, with rookie De’Zhaun Stribling now out. The more injuries San Francisco suffers, the more they will lean on the veterans who know this system inside and out. Obviously, that includes Deebo.
Last week, Miami allowed a 70% completion rate, and that was to the Raiders. Look for Brock Purdy and the 49ers to have their way with the Dolphins, giving Deebo Samuel plenty of red zone opportunities and easy touches, and we know how good he is after the catch.
Sit: Marvin Harrison Jr. Fantasy Outlook vs Seahawks
After a seemingly productive and positive training camp, many were holding out hope that Marvin Harrison Jr. would turn things around this season. Well, he saw just three targets, and only one was completed. Totaling just 0.06 fantasy points per snap isn’t a great stat, and this came in a game where the Arizona Cardinals had success and won.
This week, the matchup against the Seattle Seahawks will be much tougher. In Week 1, Seattle gave up just 5.1 yards per pass attempt, and Harrison has only a 44% catch rate against them in four matchups. There is no evidence that Harrison will return a startworthy fantasy score this week. If you start him, it is based on hope, or you’re unwilling to pick up someone more valuable.
Sit: Carnell Tate Fantasy Outlook vs Eagles
It was a relatively quiet NFL debut for Carnell Tate, who totaled four receptions for 38 yards. That was against the New York Jets, who, while improved, are not among the better defenses in the league. So, with a tougher matchup ahead against the Philadelphia Eagles, the rookie is a “sit” in our Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Week 1 was impressive for the Eagles, who allowed the second-lowest completion rate (53%) and the third-lowest yards per pass attempt (4.8). That was to Jayden Daniels, and Tate will have Cam Ward passing behind a bad offensive line.
Philadelphia made it a point to take away Terry McLaurin last week, limiting him to two catches for 14 yards. Playing a similar role for Tennessee, I am not expecting much from Carnell Tate for fantasy football Week 2.
