Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 2 RBs

Start: Clyde Edwards-Helaire vs. Chargers

After a couple of disappointing seasons, Clyde Edwards-Helaire started off the new season with a two-touchdown game and an RB6 finish. While he only had seven carries for 42 yards and three catches for 32 yards, CEH was taken out because of the Chiefs were leading by so much. This week, in a game with the highest total, look for Edwards-Helaire to continue his hot start and put up RB2 numbers once again.

He is our first “start” recommendation in this Week 2 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em article.

Start: Cordarrelle Patterson vs. Rams

Coming into the season, the Atlanta Falcons were looking to lighten Cordarrelle Patterson’s workload, at least until Damien Williams got hurt. Patterson proceeded to carry the ball 22 times for 120 yards and a touchdown and catch another three passes for 16 yards for 19.6 fantasy points. With Williams possibly missing another game, look for Patterson to get another heavy workload this week against the Rams. Monitor Williams’ status and if he is out again this week start Patterson with confidence.

Sit: Rashaad Penny vs. 49ers

Rashaad Penny, despite his 12 carries and two receptions, was only able to put together 67 yards for 8.7 fantasy points last week, which placed him at RB36. Now, with Kenneth Walker set to make his debut alongside him, that usage and volume he had last season on a tear are now likely gone. Add to that a matchup with the 49ers, who only allowed 14.6 fantasy points per game (fppg) to opposing RBs last season, keep Penny on your bench. Watch and see how the Seahawks split their RB usage.

Sit: Texans RBs vs. Broncos

The preseason fantasy hype train that was Dameon Pierce fell off the rails in Week 1, as he only mustered 39 yards on his 11 carries and one reception. However, it was Rex Burkhead who ended up being the primary running back, totaling 14 carries and five receptions for 70 yards.

In this fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em article Week 2, both belong on the bench against the Broncos who held the aforementioned Rashaad Penny to 14 touches for 67 yards. This is another backfield that is better off being observed from a distance for another week.
