One of the most highly-anticipated questions of this offseason has finally been answered. What would happen with Justin Fields? We found out the answer on Saturday afternoon, after the Chicago Bears traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now, how will this Justin Fields trade impact fantasy football?

Fantasy Football Impact of Justin Fields Trade

In the past two seasons, Justin Fields had 3,000 total yards, 20+ total touchdowns, and less than 11 interceptions. In 2022, he finished as QB5 for fantasy football, and in 2023 he finished as QB18, although he only played in 13 games in 2023. Fields showed flashes and promises of being a good, even great, quarterback, but the Bears are going all-in on selecting USC QB Caleb Williams in this upcoming NFL Draft. They even loaded him up with weapons, like signing D’Andre Swift and Gerald Everett and trading for Keenan Allen this offseason. So, they decided to trade Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now, in the perspective of fantasy football, I think Fields will be undraftable in re-draft this season. Hear me out. The Steelers traded a 2025 sixth-round pick for Fields, but it can go up to a fourth-round pick depending on how much time he plays. The Steelers also signed QB Russell Wilson to a one-year deal. You can anticipate a quarterback battle when you see the names of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, but I don’t think so, and it’s part of a “4D Chess-like” plan.

Why would they use Justin Fields this year and trade a possible fourth-rounder when they have him for two years? Especially when Fields can sit and learn behind the veteran presence of Russell Wilson this year, the Steelers would only trade a sixth-round pick, instead of a fourth or a fifth-round pick, and by May 2nd, the Steelers pick up the fifth-year option for Fields, and Fields can start in 2025 for the Steelers. It’s a whole contract play, which ironically happened to Russell Wilson with the Broncos last year.
