With the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons draft Kyle Pitts, tight end out of Florida. Pitts was widely-regarded as the top non-quarterback draft prospect, and he clearly is one of the most exciting players drafted tonight. Let’s take a look at the athletic tight end.

Strengths

Kyle Pitts is a big TE that plays almost exactly like a WR. The guy has great hands and the ability to go up and grab the ball over defenders. Pitts has the longest wingspan of any WR/TE in the last 20 years. That will make for great catches going forward. Not to mention Pitts also ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash at his pro day, so he is incredibly fast and athletic for his size. With this in mind, people were comparing him to future NFL Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson. That is some great praise for the former Gator.

Weaknesses

Kyle Pitts is injury prone, and his last season proved that. Pitts missed a total of four games, three of which were due to injury. He also skipped the Cotton Bowl. The big question on Pitts at the NFL level is if he can play a full 17-game season, especially if he is used as a typical tight end and not a wide receiver.

What to Expect From Kyle Pitts in 2021

Many consider Kyle Pitts a big wide receiver, and for good reason. With the Falcons possibly moving on from Julio Jones, for cap reasons, Pitts can immediately be a mismatch in the receiving game for Matt Ryan and the Falcons. He’s big, fast and has a big catch radius. Sound like someone? Pitts is too big for defensive backs and too quick for linebackers. Comparing him to Darren Waller may be lazy, but it’s accurate, and that’s his 2021 upside.
