Dyson Daniels Draft Profile
Strengths
Unlike many guards, Dyson Daniels has built his game around defense. With incredible size (6-8, 200 pounds), Daniels is a player who can handle the ball and play off of it. His size allows him to match up with almost any guard in the NBA. Daniels has quick enough feet to seal off edges, stay in front of his defender and close out almost perfectly. His long arms also allow him to take away passing lanes and block shots on smaller players. On offense, Daniels makes his money as a facilitator. His size allows him to play as the ball handler on the pick-and-roll, as well as in the high post.
Much like Andre Miller, Daniels is able to slice through the defense in a non-sexy look and find open guys.
Weaknesses
With his skill in defending and facilitating, Daniels lacks that elite scoring that point guards have come to develop lately. Coming from Australia, it became obvious that the G-League three-point line (same as the NBA) was a challenge for Daniels. He also struggled at the free throw line, though he only played in 14 games. If Daniels wants to develop into a great scoring guard, he will need to speed his shot up and work on his explosiveness.
