Following one of the most injury-plagued weeks in NFL history, the New York Giants were in need of a new starting running back. They found one on Tuesday, signing veteran Devonta Freeman.

Saquon Barkley Injury

In the Giants’ game against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, young star Saquon Barkley went down with an injury. We later found out that Barkley tore his ACL, ending his 2020 campaign with just 34 rushing yards.

While Saquon has had some past injuries, this appears to be his first knee injury. He had an ankle sprain last season that hindered him. Barkley had a hamstring pull the season prior, then two ankle injuries in college. In all, he has been a relatively healthy player, and he is expected to bounce back next season.

Devonta Freeman Finds a Team

After being cut by the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason, Freeman has been the go-to running back name brought up for any team that has been need of some backfield talent. Many figured that he would sign with a contender, hoping to play for a Super Bowl ring. Instead, he opts to sign with the Giants, where he is expected to see the majority of the snaps.

In 14 games last season, Freeman ran for 656 yards and two touchdowns while adding 410 yards and four more scores through the air.
