The second Australian Open Men’s Semifinal features a rematch from this same round at last year’s tournament. World No. 2 and reigning U.S. Open Champion Daniil Medvedev will look to advance to his second straight Aussie Open Final when he takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No. 4 ranked player in the world. Both men have had to get past their fair share of game challengers throughout the draw to reach the final four. The higher-seeded player has gotten the better of this head-to-head series in the past. Despite having to play a grueling match in the Quarterfinal Round, the Australian Open betting odds are still siding with last year’s finalist as a hefty favorite in tonight’s Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas semifinal clash.

The following Australian Open tennis betting preview will provide you with the current odds, head-to-head trends and a prediction for the second men’s semifinal match between Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Daniil Medvedev Background and Overview

After upsetting Novak Djokovic in the U.S. Open Final last fall, Daniil Medvedev is now just two matches away from winning back-to-back Grand Slam titles. The 25-year-old Russian came into this year’s Australian Open ranked No. 2 in the world. As Djokovic was initially included in the draw, Medvedev actually had to navigate from the bottom of the bracket despite ultimately being the highest-seeded player in the event. Medvedev’s best results as a pro to date have come on hard courts like the one inside Rod Laver Arena. In fact, all but one of his 13 ATP Tour titles have come on a hard court surface. After reaching the final before falling to Djokovic in Melbourne last year, Medvedev will try to take the next step this time around.

Medvedev stands 6’6” tall and is one of the best baseline players on tour today. For a player of his height, the degree of lateral quickness and conditioning that Medvedev brings to the table is quite remarkable. He thrives playing long volleys thanks to his long, flat groundstrokes. Medvedev also possesses a killer backhand shot that he is known to place with extreme precision down the lines. Of course, a player of his size typically can generate plenty of service power as well. Medvedev’s first serve speeds can reach up to 145 MPH.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Background and Overview

While Stefanos Tsitsipas has yet to emerge with a Grand Slam title, he has quickly become a regular amongst the final four at the Australian Open. This marks Tsitsipas’ third trip to the semifinals in Melbourne in the last four years. He has lost both of his previous semifinal matches to date including last year to Medvedev. Of course, considering that Tsitsipas had just beaten Rafael Nadal in a grueling five-setter in the quarterfinals, he had very little left for Medvedev in the next round. The 23-year-old from Greece achieved a career-best Grand Slam finish of runner-up at the French Open last year. He came into the Australian Open ranked No. 4 in the world and has seven career titles to date.

Much like Medvedev, Tsitsipas thrives as a baseline player. He has a very strong forehand and aggressively pursues winners on his groundstrokes. Thanks to a high degree of topspin on his forehand shot, Tsitsipas also tends to come in to finish off points at the net more than typical baseline-heavy players. At 6’4” tall, he is just two inches shorter than Medvedev and has a very powerful serve of his own. The biggest weakness in Tsitsipas’ game is his backhand. He especially struggles to return powerful serves to that side. This is something that he will undoubtedly have to overcome in his match against Medvedev.

Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction | Australian Open Betting

If there was ever a time for Tsitsipas to overtake Medvedev, this Australian Open semifinal might be it. After outlasting American Taylor Fritz in a five-set Fourth Round match, Tsitsipas was surprisingly fresh in his quarterfinal against Jannick Sinner. The Athens native has been working hard on his conditioning and it showed early and often on Wednesday as he routed Sinner in straight sets despite being a small tennis betting underdog.

Meanwhile, Medvedev had his toughest test of the Aussie Open to date in the Quarterfinal Round. While he ultimately got past Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, it took him a full five sets to do so. Medvedev was playing under at peak stress levels as well after falling behind two sets to none and having to rally back. The grueling nature of his quarterfinal most certainly took something out of him. Perhaps Tsitsipas can turn the tables after it was he who had nothing left when the two met in the semis last year.

While it’s tough to bet on Tsitsipas taking down the reigning U.S. Open champ outright, one has to believe he can at least claim a set or two. Thus, obtaining plus-money on a handicap that gives Tsitsipas three games is appealing as a straight match bet. With neither man expected to win in straight sets, bettors can also consider playing over 39.5 total games. Unless a four-set match has some lopsided set scores, this will typically be enough to push that number over.

Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas +3.5 Games (+105)
