Even with missing two games each of the past two seasons, Dalvin Cook still found himself among the best at the running back position in fantasy football. It’s no secret that Cook is the secret to this Minnesota Vikings offense, and it likely won’t change. Dalvin Cook is the bell cow for the Vikings and therefore will likely be putting up another impressive campaign this season.

Football is an unpredictable game and fantasy football is arguably even more unpredictable. At this point however, what can we expect from Cook this season? Let’s discuss the Dalvin Cook fantasy football outlook for 2021, including his stats from 2020 and giving our buy or sell decision based on his current average draft position (ADP).

Dalvin Cook 2021 Outlook

When it comes to his role in the Vikings offense, it should be the exact same as last season. The Vikings haven’t brought in anyone to compete for RB touches. Minnesota also hasn’t really made any significant moves on the offensive side of the ball to the skill positions.

The one big question facing Dalvin Cook this season will again be surrounding durability. He has had a sprain of some kind each of the past three seasons. While that isn’t much of an injury, he had quite the lengthy injury history early in his career. While at Florida State, he tore his shoulder labrum twice. In his rookie season, he tore his ACL in Week 4, which cost him the rest of the year.

While he hasn’t suffered any big injuries lately, you have to wonder if there’s one on the horizon. Not only does he run extremely hard, but he also had a lengthy injury history in college. Nobody wants to see anyone get injured and nobody wants to wish ill will on someone, but it just seems as if he’s “due” for a big injury, given his history.

Consistency-wise, Dalvin Cook is as good as they come. He was a “boom” (top-six RB) 50% of the time and a “starter” (top-24 RB) every game he suited up. With the amount of touches that Minnesota gives him in the rushing and passing game, the only thing stopping him from putting up another monster season is his own body. Add in that the Vikings play the seventh-easiest schedule in terms of fantasy football RBs, and Cook is slated to run wild again in 2021.

Dalvin Cook Fantasy Football ADP | Buy or Sell?

The ADP of Dalvin Cook was taken from Fantasy Football Calculator on June 26th and has him slated to be drafted with the second overall pick in 2021 drafts. As much as I respect Cook’s game, and as big of a load he gets, I think he is a sell where he is right now. When he is on the field, he is as good as anybody, but I just can’t trust to use a pick that high on a guy who has suffered major injuries throughout college and during his rookie season.

If a player is often hurt early in their career, they rarely turn into reliable options for long. For that reason, I would sell Dalvin Cook at second overall. With that being said, if you believe Cook will be able to stay healthy for a third straight season, you can’t go wrong with him, even this high in your fantasy football draft.
