The Los Angeles Chargers re-signed cornerback Michael Davis to a three-year deal with the salary still to be determined. This move comes on the same day as the big NFL Free Agency signing of center Corey Linsley, proving the Chargers are looking to make moves quickly this offseason.
Chargers Re-Sign Michael Davis | NFL Free Agency
Michael Davis quietly made a name for himself these past few years in Los Angeles. Davis decided to stay home and continue playing with the Chargers, despite having offers from other teams. He is the first Chargers free agent that chose to stay with the team.
The BYU Alum started all 16 games for the Chargers last season and finished with three interceptions and 62 total tackles. The speedster even took one to the endzone after intercepting the 2021 Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady in their matchup.
Davis performed like one of the best Chargers’ defenders last season and will look to continue his strong run in the future. The Bolts released former All-Pro corner Casey Hayward just a few days ago, so it was important to retain Davis in the secondary. Davis will be one of the two starting outside cornerbacks for the Chargers this year. It will be interesting to see how head coach Brandon Staley switches around his unit in his new defensive scheme.
