Arizona Cardinals Preview
The Cardinals actually trailed at halftime of their Week 3 contest against the winless Jacksonville Jaguars. A 17-point third quarter served as the springboard to what was ultimately a double-digit win and a 3-0 start to the season. Quarterback Kyler Murray continues to fill up the box score seemingly every week. He eclipsed 300 yards passing last Sunday and also scored a rushing touchdown. James Conner also found the end zone twice on the ground. While Arizona did not record a single score through the air, that didn’t prevent both A.J. Green and Christin Kirk from topping 100 yards receiving on the day.
Perhaps the biggest surprise the Cardinals have thrown at NFL betting analysts through three weeks is their ability to defend the pass. Football Outsiders grades Arizona as the third-best defense for adjusted efficiency against the pass. Last week’s matchup undoubtedly helped boost some of their numbers. Byron Murphy intercepted Jaguars’ QB, Trevor Lawrence, twice, returning one for a touchdown. The Cardinals also had three sacks as a team. One also can’t help but wonder how things might be different had the Tennesse Titans actually shown up for the Week 1 showdown between the teams. The D will get undoubtedly its toughest test to date this Sunday.
Los Angeles Rams Preview
After dispatching of the reigning Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in convincing fashion last week, the Rams are now the talk of the NFL betting world. The team is suddenly on top of seemingly every NFL power rankings known to man. Matthew Stafford is now at the heart of MVP discussions. While everything is rosy right now in SoCal, L.A. faces a tough task in turning around to play a divisional matchup just one week after their big win. Will the headlines and praise get to them?
Seeing that the NFL betting odds have installed the Rams as a healthy five-point favorite is noteworthy. They certainly didn’t do anything against the Buccaneers to suggest that the spread should be much shorter than the six-point margin it was on the Las Vegas lookahead market last week. Stafford tore up the Tampa Bay secondary for 343 yards passing and four touchdowns. Two of those went to Cooper Kupp, who had yet another monster game with 96 yards on nine receptions. Even 34-year-old veteran DeSean Jackson got in on the aerial brigade. He caught a long touchdown and led the team with 120 yards receiving. The uber-talented Los Angeles defensive front got after Tom Brady all game long, sacking him three times.
