September 5th feels like it’s right around the corner, and with it comes the 2019 NFL season. With the season quickly approaching, us fantasy football fans are gearing up for fantasy drafts galore. This means you will be making some tough decisions in your drafts. One of these choices may be deciding between Leonard Fournette, Kerryon Johnson and Devonta Freeman as your RB2. Below is a look into which player I am buying, selling and holding, based on their current fantasy football ADP from FantasyPros.

Leonard Fournette, Jaguars – Buy

ADP: RB13 (31 Overall)

Last season, Fournette was an injured disappointment, playing just half of the season. You should take the chance. Yes, injuries are scary, but when you have the opportunity to take a player with the ceiling of an RB1 in the (on average) third round, you have to take it. Doug Marrone has already stated that Fournette will be the Jags’ workhorse and recently stated that Fournette will be implemented into the passing game. With this, Fournette is expected to see about 20 touches per game. Weeks 10-12 last season should be a good example of what you’ll get from Fournette — 80 touches (10 receptions), 358 yards and five TDs, which in fantasy terms is 25.3 points per game. That average projected over a full 16-game season would have been RB2, behind only Todd Gurley in average FPPG.

Kerryon Johnson, Lions – Hold

ADP: RB14 (30th Overall)

The Lions drafted T.J. Hockenson with the ninth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he’s one of the most polished run blockers to come out of college in a long while. I think this gives a hint to what this team wants to do: run the ball. Johnson only played 10 games last season, but thanks to averaging 5.4 yards per carry, he finished with 641 rushing yards, the most by any Lions’ running back since Joique Bell in 2014. Johnson also has shown talent in the receiving game, giving him the potential to be a 50-catch back. The reason why I have him in the “hold” section of this article and not the “buy” is because of the disappointments many young running backs have turned out to be after showing promise with Detroit. It’s hard to knock a player with a seeming coincidence, but it should add hesitation to your selection and is the main reasoning for his place on this list.

Devonta Freeman, Falcons – Sell

ADP: RB15 (34th Overall)

While my “buy” and “hold” players are both arguably the best player on their offenses, Freeman is probably the third-best player on the Falcons’ offense. Freeman isn’t just in a pass-heavy offense, but also has to look behind him at Ito Smith and possibly Qadree Ollison or Brian Hill to take quality snaps from him. Freeman hasn’t truly been a top fantasy RB since Kyle Shanahan left. Since Freeman has a lot of competition to fight through to get the ball, along with the fact he isn’t the main target for the offense, it’s hard to have him anywhere else on this list. I’m not saying Freeman is a bad pick in fantasy, but he’s the worst fantasy option in this trio.
