Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview
For the second straight week, 44-year-old Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady put on a masterful performance. While his 276 passing yards was a somewhat modest total, Brady fired five TD passes to bring his season total to nine through two games. Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski each caught two and Chris Godwin had the other for the Bucs. Those three, along with Leonard Fournette, all finished with four or more receptions in Week 2. The Bucs turned a three-point lead after three quarters into a 23-point blowout win over the division rival Atlanta Falcons.
To put it bluntly, the Buccaneers are loaded offensively. However, the defense has left a bit to be desired through the first two games. Given that all 11 starters returned, it’s rather surprising to see the Bucs in the bottom ten in points allowed after two weeks of play. The run defense has been very sharp, but Tampa Bay has gotten beat through the air. Surrendering 300 yards to Matt Ryan last week wasn’t exactly an encouraging sign. That said, they did come away with three interceptions, including two by safety Mike Edwards. The D will need to clean things up if they hope to contain the Rams’ offense and cover as NFL betting favorites.
Los Angeles Rams Preview
It was another solid effort for the Rams as a team in their Week 2 road win over the Indianapolis Colts. Of course, the fact that Carson Wentz left the game with an injury certainly helped L.A. ice it away late. Nonetheless, the Rams got tested, and they rose to the occasion. Fantasy football owners lost their minds thanks to wideout Cooper Kupp exploding for 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Of course, quarterback Matthew Stafford had a solid game as well. He finished with 278 yards passing and a pair of scores.
One of the major knocks against the Rams after their run to the Super Bowl a few years ago was the inconsistency of their running game. Well, through two weeks, that area of the offense has also been sharp. It was a relatively even split between Darrell Henderson and Sony Michel in Week 2. Together, they amassed 99 yards rushing. Henderson also found the end zone once. The Rams’ vaunted defense recorded three sacks and forced two interceptions in the win. However, some NFL betting analysts were concerned with how the Colts moved the ball against them. L.A. will need to clamp down in the secondary against the high-powered Bucs offense this Sunday.
