Atlanta Braves Preview

Truist Park was rocking following a first-inning grand slam by Adam Duvall on Sunday night. That blast spotted the Braves a 4-0 lead in a potential World Series-clinching Game 5. A potential Atlanta championship celebration was unfortunately put on hold as the Braves’ pitching faltered over the next few innings. Due to Charlie Morton being knocked out of Game 1 with a broken fibula, Game 5 marked the second straight in which Brian Snitker was forced to cobble together a full nine innings from the bullpen. Even the reliable A.J. Minter got knocked around in the fifth following a Freddie Freeman homer that gave the Braves their second lead of the evening. While Atlanta failed to capture the title in front of their home fans, they are arguably in a much better position as far as pitching goes as the MLB betting series shifts back to Houston.

In a nod to the Braves having the upper hand on the mound, left-hander Max Fried will make his second start of the World Series in Game 6 tonight. Snitker and the Braves will hope that he can bounce back after a shaky Game 2 outing. Fried, who was Atlanta’s most reliable starter all season, surrendered six runs on seven hits while pitching five innings. It was the second straight start in which the southpaw got knocked around. He also allowed five runs in Game 5 of the NLCS against the Dodgers. Should he hold steady tonight, Atlanta will have three of their best bullpen weapons rested and ready behind him. Tyler Matzek, Luke Jackson and Will Smith all went unused in Sunday’s loss.

Houston Astros Preview

The Astros certainly displayed plenty of fight and resilience in their Game 5 comeback win on Sunday night. With their backs against the wall after falling down big early, Houston made quick work of erasing the early four-run deficit. Dusty Baker made a few changes to the batting order ahead of the must-win road game and they paid off in a big way. Alex Bregman got the Astros started with an RBI double in the second inning after being dropped to seventh in the order. The two players who moved up, Carlos Correa and Yuli Gurriel, each finished with three hits apiece in Game 5. Correa drove in a pair of runs while catcher Martin Maldonado also came up with a pair of timely at-bats to drive in three total runs on the night. Houston’s offense is simply too good to remain dormant over an entire MLB betting series.

Baker will turn to Luis Garcia as his Game 6 starting pitcher tonight. Unlike Fried for Atlanta, the right-handed Garcia will be starting on short rest. He worked Game 3 of the World Series, but the Astros were forced to burn Game 2 starter Jose Urquidy on Sunday. Garcia wasn’t too bad last Friday in Atlanta. He allowed just one run and struck out six while pitching into the fourth inning. He did struggle with command, however, and four walks were a big reason why Baker pulled him so early. The Astros are in dire straights when it comes to the bullpen, so a quality start from Garcia tonight would be very much welcomed. Phil Maton and Kendall Graveman each had to work two innings in Game 5. With the day off for travel, both are probably okay to go in tonight’s MLB betting contest.
