Boye Mafe Draft Profile

Strengths

Although it will take some skill work and development to transform Boye Mafe into a quality NFL starter, there is a lot to work with coming out of Minnesota. Mafe’s strengths are headed up by next-level explosion and power. As an edge rusher, he is also capable of disrupting the blocks of opposing offensive tackles with a strong chop. He is a quality tackler, thanks to his range and strength. Mafe pursues ball-carriers effectively even between the tackles thanks to sound leverage and speed. The son of Nigerian natives, Mafe also has shown great potential when it comes to blasting route-running tight ends off the line.

Weaknesses

Although Mafe’s explosiveness ranks among the best in the 2022 NFL Draft class, a lack of fundamental awareness will need to be improved upon at the next level. His footwork is average, at best. Among some of the knocks analysts have pointed out are his inefficient get-off when rushing and his tight, choppy strides when running upfield. Mafe also lacks natural instincts when it comes to how he uses his hands. His hands often slip when taking on blockers.
